I ordered these to mount cameras/devices on the windshield bolts for my Harley-Davidson touring motorcycle (2022 FLHX). The thread on the stock windshield bolts is 1/4"-20, with two different lengths (center vs. left/right side). RAM has a version of this part that comes with a bolt, but the lengths available didn't suite my needs. So, I ordered this version without a bolt, and ordered my own 1/4-20 threaded rods with the needed lengths from another supplier (McMaster-Carr). I measured my existing bolt lengths, and added 5/8" for the threading in this RAM ball. The threading in the RAM balls I received was perfect. To test this, I was able to screw my stock windshield bolts into this RAM ball with no problem. Once I added the custom threaded rods, they worked perfectly to replace my stock bolts, giving me three device mount positions. For customers that complained that the ball should have come with a screw, RAM does have that, but it's a different part number. Read more

I have ordered two of these. One was M6 and the other 1/4-20 treaded. Obviously, this was not a huge problem for me, but it is annoying. If you are attempting to screw this onto an existing post, it may be an issue. Otherwise, it is a ram mount ball. It works. Read more

UPDATE 09/14/17: I'm moving my rating from 4 stars to 5 I love all my RAM Mount system products but, in the past, somewhat felt that they were greatly overpriced. Sort of like Apple where the product is very good but could be sold for much less. That said, I recently had a critical piece fail on one of my RAM Mount products. The company's website made it easy to submit a claim under their lifetime warranty and they quickly send me a new replacement. So, paying a little bit of a premium in pricing up front was worth it in the long run where a company like RAM Mount unconditionally stands behind its products forever. Kudos to them and 5 stars!
