Ok so this model “RASTAR 99600 1/18 Porsche RC Car” was the perfect building kit to work on with my 10 year old son… Im not new to building RC models, but doing it with my son I found this kit to be a manageable and an enjoyable project, well-suited for beginners like him. The assembly process was straightforward thanks to clear instructions that made it easy to follow along even with the illustrations. While assembling the car, I used basic tools like flush cutters and my fixit pry tool and although I encountered a few loose parts which were a quick fix with model glue… everything else was secure once assembled. One can appreciated the thoughtful design though I did wish some parts were already assemble since they were so small and it is expected to be assembled by youth. The quality of the materials used in this kit generally matches the price point on average making it a good value for the cost. Now the controller feels a bit cheap, but is functional and fits the budget-friendly nature of the kit as a whole. The car itself features nice details, such as textured plastic that mimics the carbon fiber (which my son noticed right away) of the actual Porsche and well-molded rubber tires. Now there were minor issues, a tight fit for some non-standard parts but that was quickly fixed and or retrofitted. On the performance side, the RC car functions are basic but sufficient for casual play on hared wood floors but it lacks advanced features like proportional control, and there's a slight delay in response from the controller, but it's perfectly adequate for younger users and or beginners. The drivetrain is simple, powered by a standard size motor though I did wish the wires had a better way to be channeled on the model. This is a toy that won't overwhelm a novice but still offers the fun of a functioning RC car after assembly. This Porsche RC car kit is a fantastic project for those who enjoy model building and have a soft spot for RC cars… It's not just about playing with the end product; the real joy comes from the process of putting it together and being able to use this project as bonding time with the young ones. It's an engaging way to introduce kids to this hobby, teaching them the mechanics of RC models and the care needed to handle them all the way down to thew small intricate pieces. The model detail is quite nice. Bumpy textured plastic is used as a substitute for the exposed carbon fiber weaving on the real car. The rubber tires are molded right on plastic wheels. Putting together this kit was straight forward. All I used was flush cutters and my finger nail to smooth things out. It's a friction fit kit. I did have three loose parts but are captured in place. There are some totally not Technic pegs to join the top and bottom halves together which unlike the real Technic pegs these fitted too tight and never clicked into place like the real ones. In the instructions there is a typo mentioning the BMW model kit instead of the Porsche but otherwise was good. One thing I didn't follow was holding off attaching the side mirrors and rear wing until the end to avoid accidentally damaging them while messing with the rest. Watch out for the brake pedal when joining the two dashboard pieces together and stalks on the steering wheel column cover when attaching that to the dashboard. And be careful with the connector for the power switch as the wire on mine was just long enough to reach the receiver and had no slack. The RC part as both surprised and not surprised that it's as basic as it can be with no proportional control and input delay from the controller to the car which I guess is fine for a kid. The drivetrain for the rear wheels is a simple solid axle powered by a 130 size motor. I did run into a problem where it didn't want to move. Motor connection was fine. The rear wheels needed to be turned once then it started to move after that. Top speed is maybe 4 or 5 mph? So to be real who is this really targeted for? Unless you're a diehard Porsche fan whose looking to collect, at ~$65 I wouldn't buy in mind for a child and call it done. I would consider getting it and hope they get bored of it so I can play with it by either further detailing the model to be a static display model or use the body shell on an actual RC chassis. In my case I picked this up hoping to fit it over my old HPI Micro RS4 chassis which has a very similar wheelbase. Read more

This Porsche RC car building kit was a fun project! It was cool to put together a model of a Porsche 911, and then get to drive it around afterwards. The instructions were clear, and the pieces fit together well. The car itself is pretty fast and handles well. It's a great gift for kids and adults who like cars and building things. Read more
