Great purchase for family VHS movie night.
My son found his favorite movie (Jurassic Park) on VHS at a book fair, and purchased it. Next, we found a VHS player; however, like most modern televisions, my Sony doesn't have the standard component inputs. Sony does have a single input that can be used assuming your purchase the required cable that combines the component into a 3.5mm jack; however, this cable wasn't supplied when purchased from Sony. To keep things simple, I purchased this because of the ability to use HDMI, which is just more easily managed and easier to find in the proper length. This little device works very well. The video comes out incredibly clear (for VHS quality), with no strange distortions, static, or other undesired artifacts. I didn't see much of a difference between the 720p and 1080p toggle, but maybe that works better on something other than VHS. I'll have to use a DVD and see if that shows a difference. All of the required cables were provided, and of adequate length to connect to. We didn't have an extra USB charger laying around, so we plugged the USB into the Xbox next to it and that provides enough power for this thing to work. Although the device is relatively small, simple, and light, it doesn't "feel" cheap. The connections are all tight, the cables are of high quality, and the plastic housing is clean and solid. The size really helps with cable management. Despite it needing external power, it doesn't even get warm to the touch. Overall, we're incredibly happy with the device, and can't wait to find other retro systems to plug into it. Read more
