I have been refurbishing a lot of antiques lately so rags have become extremely important to me. There are times you want different types. For parts of my process I like to use rags with texture other times I want plain rags. I picked these out because they were plain rags, what I prefer to use with stains, oils or adding some shine. What I did not know at the time was I would love them and they would be part of a new category. These seem to be larger sized than rags from a leading company. In one of my pictures you can see the difference. To me this is extremely useful. These are more like the undershirt I first learn to stain with. This box of old, cut-up T-shirts is a perfect addition to a garage, basement, or workshop. I use the shirts for cleaning around my woodworking equipment and to dab up small oil spills on my workbench. Instead of running dirty shop rags in the washer, I can toss these when they're through. As described, rags cut from cotton t-shirts. They are jam-packed-serpentine-woven-tight into that box, so you might want to reinforce it with some tape as the first few don't come out so easily without tearing the cardboard. They are thin rags but not molecule thin. The quality is very good, thin enough to maneuver into tight spaces. If you need thick rags, ask your mom for some old towels. Thin is in. And in the dozen or so I pulled out, I did find two labels of 95% cotton & 5% elastane (spandex), but in fairness the listing does not specify 100% cotton rags although the majority seems to be so. If the tags were cut off, we'd be none the wiser. On a side note, amazing how that 5% really gives a lot of stretch to the fabric, but they will work just as fine for your projects with slightly less absorbency. For mucking up grease, no issue. It is also to be noted the rags were laundered well, being exceptionally clean and bleached. Value wise it's a fair price. Rags were never cheap -- you're not just paying for someone's used laundry. Average size of 15x15" is about right, some much larger. But whether for purpose of economy or required need, you will likely find yourself cutting many in half as you need them. We always have a myriad of projects going on, from automotive to repairing things around the home or building/refinishing small furniture pieces. Many of these projects require single use rags, and this box of t-shirt rags is great for most uses. Shop towels are more expensive and require washing, which I will not do with grease on them (toss!!). These are perfect for wiping oil and tossing, tho I would cut off a chunk to save a little. I like these are thinner to do those projects where you can't use a heavy duty shop towel. These are a great addition to our shop and will buy again, tho I do think this box will last us a while. Soft rags. Good for a myriad of projects including cleaning, polishing, etc. Not really sure yet if they are lint free enough for stains or varnish since I have no projects like that im presently working on. Texture is good...a cotton knit, just like a favorite worn out tshirt. Recommended. Great to have around. Read more
