Really impressed with this energy monitor so far. Setup was easier than I expected, and once it was installed I could immediately see my home’s power usage in real time. It’s honestly eye-opening to see exactly where electricity is going. Super easy install. Took me 15 minutes from start to finish! What I like most is being able to track individual circuits — it helped me quickly identify a couple of appliances that were using way more power than I realized. The app/interface is simple to use, and I also appreciate that it works locally and integrates nicely with Home Assistant. Build quality feels solid and everything works as advertised. Since installing it, I’ve already started making small changes that should help lower my electric bill. I bought the Refoss Smart Home Energy Monitor because I wanted a better idea of where the electricity in my house was actually going. Every month the bill shows up, but it never really tells you what’s using the power. This device helped answer that question. After getting it set up, I was able to see how much electricity different parts of the house were using and when that usage was happening. It didn’t take long to start noticing which appliances were pulling the most power. Being able to see the numbers makes it much easier to track down what’s driving your electric usage. From what I could see, the installation itself looked fairly straightforward, but I personally had an electrician handle it. It requires working inside the electrical panel, which is something I’d rather leave to someone who does that for a living. Because of that I don’t have installation photos. I asked the electrician to grab one while he was doing the work, but he forgot. Once everything was running, the information was easy to follow and it’s interesting to check in and see what’s using power at different times of the day. If you’re curious about where your electricity is going or trying to get a better handle on your household energy usage, this is a useful tool to have. Bottom line: It gives you a clear look at what’s actually using electricity in your home, which makes it much easier to understand your power usage instead of just guessing from the monthly bill. You can tell this was intended for 3-phase power consumption because the 18 sensors are split into 3. Each group is called "A", "B", or "C", each contains a group of 6 current clamps, and each should be paired with the corresponding voltage sensing wire. This is fine if you have three phase because you have a voltage sense wire for each phase. When working with US split-phase power, this means you really can only monitor 12 circuits on one leg and 6 circuits on the other. If you want to monitor 9 circuits on each of 2 legs of split-phase power, some of those "C" group current clamps will report slightly inaccurate power (because voltage sense will be on the "wrong" leg for those sensors. Not a HUGE deal, but be aware that the power readings might be slightly off due to mismatched voltage sense for those circuits if you put 9 on each leg. Read more

Overall, this is a good product and great for monitoring electricity usage. Install: The installation isn't that bad. First and foremost, be sure to turn off the main breaker to the house before doing anything. There is a lot of electricity in that fuse box, and you don't want any of it outside that box! Second, you'll need a little bit of room in your fuse box. If the box is currently a giant mess or overly full, you're going to struggle to get this in there as well. Assuming you have room, then it's just a matter of clipping on leads to the wires of the circuit you want to monitor, plugging them into the energy monitor and then turning everything on. I will say, if you have multiple circuits on a single fuse, even if they have their own breaker (like the top left breaker in my picture), there's no point in putting leads on both lines. Just pick one and then go into settings and change the circuit factor to 2. Once everything is installed, just tidy it up a bit and you'll be good to go. Operation: The energy monitor is a great tool for letting you know how much electricity certain circuits and items within your house are using. For a numbers geek like myself, this is heaven. You can find ways to cut down on costs and determine what's not worth fighting the family over (leaving that LED bulb on isn't the end of the world!). You can see things like your fridge cycle on and off, letting you know how long and how often it's working to keep things cool. If you notice it's cycling too frequently or staying on too long, you might be due for a cleaning around the intake or even a replacement of the fridge. What now: So now that it's installed, you've played with it for a couple of days and have an idea of what's using your electricity and how much. So what now? Well, that's a great question. You CAN set up warnings/notifications if a circuit goes above or below a certain threshold (set your main to <1 Watt. If it triggers, that means you've lost power to your home. Great for when you're away from home and need to worry about a fish tank or something else). Also, because this unit has leads that go to specific circuits, it's easier to monitor specific items or areas. If you've got an energy hog, you'll be able to pinpoint what area of the house it is on pretty quickly. What you CAN'T do is label individual items within a circuit. So circuit A2 might be your kitchen. With everything else off, the only thing you see consuming electricity is your fridge as it cycles. Great. But once you start to turn on the lights, use the stove, plug in your charger, use the dishwasher or garbage disposal- those things all comingle into one single number. I'd love to be able to label or isolate known values on a circuit so it is easier to separate out individual items. Instead of just seeing a number or graph showing 701W, I'd like to be able to click on it and know that the fridge is consuming 72W, the stove is using 300W, and the microwave is using the rest. Perhaps something like that will come in an update down the road. Final note: Please be aware, the unit can monitor a total of 14 fuses + your 2 mains (assuming the standard 2 phase US system). Depending on the size of your fuse box, you might have to choose which fuses to monitor. You'll still know the total amount of energy being used because of the mains, but you may not see individual usage on circuits that don't have a lead. Read more
