So far, so good!

ChristinaJune 26, 2023✓ Verified purchase

I bought this to go on top of the base of my freestanding umbrella. We do not have a table, only two chairs, so I needed some thing to anchor down the umbrella during wind storms. No matter what base I bought the umbrella would still tip over. Figured I’d give this a try. I was able to fill this with 100 pounds of sand. It’s sits nicely on top of my umbrella base and obviously adds weight. Haven’t had any major wind storms yet, but I can’t see the umbrella easily tipping over with this extra weight on it. Hopefully it holds up but for now it works well and it looks nice. And the long zipper makes it easy to fill so I like this one better than some others. I saw that only have a small place to fill the sand. Just make sure you keep moving around the sand evenly as you’re filling it, so it doesn’t get too heavy in one spot. Read more

Keeps your shade in place!

I recently purchased the Rhino Round Umbrella Base Weight, and I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance and durability. As someone who loves spending time outdoors on sunny days, having a reliable and sturdy umbrella that stays upright is essential for creating a comfortable and shaded space. After using the base weight for a few weeks, I can confidently say that it's one of the best additions to my outdoor setup. The design of the Rhino base weight is well-thought-out. It features a convenient handle that makes it easy to maneuver and a large opening to easily fill with sand. Over time it has become a but faded from the sun, but it's durability remains. Whether you're enjoying a leisurely day in the backyard or hosting an outdoor gathering, this umbrella base weight will ensure that your shade stays put! Read more

Great but not for cantilever umbrellas

LasagnaFebruary 23, 2024✓ Verified purchase

This bag feels solid and sturdy. Put 60 lbs of sand in it but will probably have to get another bag and max it out at the claimed 90 lbs as I have a lot of wind in my area. However, it doesn’t make sense for a cantilever umbrella. On my umbrella, the base goes away from the umbrella part. The weight is all front-leaning, so putting this circle bag around the base doesn’t really help at all. I have to just put it on the very back end of the main supporting leg, which is something a $5 sandbag could’ve done. Granted, a sandbag is less visually appealing, but so is a sad jumbled up bag that looks like it’s had better days. Nothing against the bag itself, but they shouldn’t advertise this for “every umbrella.” If you have a cantilever umbrella, consider sand bags, or a bag designed for your umbrella. Read more

Great Bag!

Don MiguelJanuary 31, 2022✓ Verified purchase

This is the third set of sand bags I’ve tried. The first two were highly rated but didn’t last more than a couple of years as they deteriorated from exposure to the UV sunlight. This bag is rated to hold 90 lbs, but it actually holds a full cubic foot of sand which is between 100 and 115 pounds. They were a little tough to latch with that much sand, but I got it done. I like the zipper a lot more than Velcro seals because the sand clogs the Velcro making for a difficult closure and the easiest bag to fill of the three brands I’ve tried. I put a zip tie on the two zippers to ensure a long term lock on the zippered opening. The lifetime warranty on the bag was the primary reason for trying this brand but if they last five years or longer it will be a bargain! I am a commercial GC and I can confirm the quality and user friendly configuration of this bag. Buy them! Read more

Probably the best way to keep an umbrella from getting broken

Faith S.June 22, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Base mate is great-- we've been using it a few months now after our umbrella kept getting hurt further from tipping with a more classic umbrella stand. The plastic types that are similar (fill with sand etc) don't hold as much sand and aren't as easily manipulated if you need to move them. This took me one full bag that I think was 2 cubic feet, but I bought two to make sure I could overstuff it to its best. If I need to move it, I pour out some sand until it's reasonable, which because the zippers are on the side, isn't inconvenenient at all. Solved my umbrella issues. Read more

A great easy to do product! And it works!

VickJuly 29, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I love my Rhino BaseMate! It holds my gigantic umbrella down to the ground when the lake winds are blowing. It holds 90 pounds of sand and has a big opening to pour the sand into so its easy, and a covered zipper that is a very sturdy zipper to close. Put it around my umbrella pole, with the most weight towards the wind, and clasp the buckle closed. Thats it. Couldn’t be simpler if you wanted it to be. This is a fantastic product! Read more

Good Quality so far, we filled with sand

T.June 30, 2023✓ Verified purchase

The design with a split for the pole works well, easy to set up. We decided to use smaller ziplock bags of sand, poured from a 50-lb bag. It was easy to adjust the smaller bags to fit inside, and through a lot of rain it has held up and not leaked or made a muddy mess. It should be easy to take apart and put away for the winter as well. As others mentioned, the fabric and zippers are sturdy, and it's sewn together well. We are using this bag topping a wheeled, 50-lb round stand, to move an 11 foot umbrella on the patio. So the total 100 lbs is stable for the large umbrella, but the wheels give it that little bit of mobility we needed. Read more
