I had a plumber replace my two simple 55-year-old metal outdoor faucets about10 years ago. He chose the Woodford Model 17 Anti-Siphon. A couple years ago, one became extremely hard to turn off. I would have to exert much force about 3-4 times to finally get it turned off, so I finally ordered this kit. The instructions was one page and contained many photographs and appeared detailed and complete. I didn't read them. The instructions were as small as they could make them and still be readable. There are videos on-line explaining how to install this repair kit too. None the less, a young plumber friend was visiting and he installed this kit for me. He did not seem to need the instructions, saying he had done this before. Once the water was shut off, I'm guessing it took him 15 minutes. He told me he replaced everything the kit came with, not just the part that was causing my leak. He also noted that often, getting the cap off is very difficult and has to be pried off. Afterwards, I found the faucet quite a bit harder to turn on or off. I do not know why and I do not like it. The handle is hard plastic, just as the original Woodford was. note; TURNING OFF WELL WATER: My outdoor faucets are hooked up to a well. My system did not have a shut-off valve for the well, so I had to shut off the electricity to the well pump at the breaker box in order to shut off the water to the spigot. However, the circuit for the well was not labeled, so, we would have to test it by flipping off unlabeled breaker switches until the outdoor water stopped. None the less, the plumber first turned off some valve in the system and turned on the water. The pressure tank began clicking non-stop, indicating it was cycling. That was a problem. We would either have to replace the old pressure tank ($1100 installed) or try draining it. I suggested we first shutoff the electricity as a kind of boot or reset. The plumber did not think that would do any good. Once we found the correct circuit to shut off, installed the faucet repair kit, and turned the power back on, the clicking was gone to the plumbers surprise. Yay. Read more

Could not find these at the big box or hardware stores nearby. This is a good value and worked great to repair my faucet that would no longer fully shut off. I ended up putting a hose sprayer on the valve to shut off the water while I waited for next day delivery. Read more

If you have an older home with this type of faucet and it's leaking, then this is the fix. Easy to read instructions with pictures and very detailed. Why call a plumber to fix this when in a few minutes with a few basic tools you can do this yourself. Wife was amazed at how quick the water was back on. One word of caution, if your faucet was leaking and loose, this kit will make it almost brand new and it will be stiffer to turn on and off. The new seals work great and no leaks at all. The outside faucet on the side of the house has been leaking for quite a while. I tried the usual actions, like tightening the handle, wrapping the connections with Teflon tape, and so forth. I have a timer attached to this faucet to control the watering times for the flower beds. Because of the leaking I was not able to use the timer because I had to constantly turn the faucet off each use, thus negating the timer function. I finally figured out the leak was caused by worn out gaskets and seals. This repair kit was easy to install when following the included instructions. Problem solved! Bought to repair faucet, had to use old parts and new parts to make it work. We could not make it seal and not leak with all new parts from kit. That said this was only our second time to repair an outside faucet. So could be user error. I also need to throw in that we used a You tube video and the instructions in order to get a clear picture of what we needed to do. So, in short it was the right size, replacement was not easy (but we are new to doing this) quality seems to be good, however we could not make some parts work and had to use a few old parts. If I have to buy again, I will buy name brand parts. Read more
