Wow! What a great selection of musical noisemakers for Lill' Musician in the Makin'. In the days of plastic toys, this set stands alone. This is a very sturdy, wooden set. The build quality of the Xylophone was particularly impressive. Each one will fit comfortably in a little hand, and each has a unique sound. These will outlast both of my grandchildren! The instruments are colorful but not overpowering. There is no assembly required, can start playing with them right out of the box. My wife played with each instrument and was impressed with the sounds of each. (My older grandson noticed an added bonus with the "rain sound" instrument. When the little beads travel up and down in the tube, static electricity is collected on some of the beads, and the beads are repelled from each other and seem to float. That observation led to a wonderful discussion on static electricity) I am certain children will get many hours of fun with this set. Read more

This has to be one of the cutest musical instrument kits I have yet to see. I really like the fact that it’s in wood as opposed to plastic, and that the colors are so soft and muted, as opposed to the in your face primaries so many children’s toys have these days. The listing says 11 pieces, which is true, but they’re actually only eight instruments and one noisemaking toy, much like a rainmaker. There aren’t any small, choking hazards, but I definitely agree that this is not for children under three simply because I don’t know how the wood has been preserved nor what’s in the paint, and as we all know, little kids like to put things in their mouths. That makes a couple of things in this kit slightly confusing, such as the rain maker and the sliding beads and stars on the xylophone. While those would definitely appeal to a toddler, I don’t think they are as attractive to an older child. I really appreciate the included musical instructions, although I would have enjoyed a little more information on the instruments themselves, besides just their names. When you can make education, entertaining, it really helps a child learn, and I feel like they missed out on a great opportunity to educate the kids who would be using these instruments. My one complaint and why it lost a star is that there is no storage included. Unless you have a very fastidious child, I can’t see this box lasting as permanent storage. It would’ve been really nice. Had they included some kind of soft bag with a Velcro closure to help keep everything together. Overall, I really like these, and I can see a lot of playtime in their near future! The only question that remains is whether or not I’m going to be able to withstand the plethora of sounds I have brought into my home. Read more
