The Runcati medieval pirate shirt is a dependable, no‑nonsense addition to Renaissance or cosplay garb. The durable linen fabric feels sturdy and well‑made, and while it will likely run warm in the summer, that’s true of most period‑style costumes. The stitching looks clean, the lace‑up design fits the aesthetic perfectly, and it blends right in with traditional Renaissance outfits. Fit is straightforward: at 5'5" and 170 pounds, a large fits exactly as expected—comfortable without being baggy. At the end of the day, it’s a shirt, so there isn’t a lot of mystery to it, but it works, it looks the part, and it feels built to last. Read more

This tunic shirt is a bit of a mixed bag. While the fit and primary design elements are great, there is one specific detail that might be a dealbreaker depending on your style. The Highlights: Comfortable Material: The fabric is soft and comfortable against the skin, making it a nice choice for all-day wear. Styling Details: I really love the lace-up details on both the side and the neck. They add a unique, trendy flair to the shirt that sets it apart from a basic tunic. Great Value: At $20, the price point feels very fair for the quality of the material and the overall design. The Major "Con": The Rainbow Thread: My biggest issue—and the reason for the 4-star rating—is the thread used for the bottom hem and the lace holes. It is a rainbow-colored thread that really clashes with the rest of the shirt. It feels out of place and "throws off the whole look." It’s a strange design choice that just doesn't seem to make sense with the rest of the garment. Final Verdict: If you don't mind a bit of unexpected color in the stitching, this is a soft, well-priced, and stylish top. However, if you prefer a cohesive, monochromatic look, the rainbow thread might bother you as much as it did me. Read more

My son is into larping and cosplay. This shirt fits his character's aesthetic well. The shirt is 100% cotton, a wonderful choice for a period shirt! This natural fiber would have been available to Europeans at the time. Practically speaking it also doesn't retain odors or stains like synthetics. It does have a tendency to wrinkle but washing and hanging or ironing will mitigate that. It's a bit thin for say winter wear, but can be worn any other time of year alone or with layers for warmth and style. One thing you don't really notice in the description photos is the rainbow colored stitching along the bottom and button holes. I found this out of place. There's also a sort of laced up part to one side of the bottom. I can't figure out what it's for. It gives the shirt an asymmetric feel. I feel like it should have one on the other side to balance it out. The quality and workmanship of the shirt is stellar. I can find no fault in the manufacture of this shirt. It's very well done! My son is an XXL and this shirt is true to size. If you don't mind the rainbow stitching I would highly recommend this shirt for your larping and cosplay needs. Read more

As big fans of Renaissance fairs, we’re always on the hunt for the perfect Ren Faire shirt that nails that authentic medieval/vintage vibe without any off-notes. We ordered this Runcati Men’s Medieval Pirate Shirt in Navy, hoping it would become our go-to for festivals and LARP events. The fit is excellent—true to size with a comfortable, relaxed feel that works great untucked or belted. The 100% cotton fabric is soft, breathable, and has a nice weight to it; it feels substantial and high-quality right out of the package. We also really appreciate the roll-up sleeves, which add versatility for warmer days at the faire. That said, there are a couple of details that keep it from being a full 5-star winner for our tastes. The bottom hem features colorful rainbow-thread decorative stitching (which isn’t obvious in the small product photos), and it clashes a bit with the classic Renaissance or pirate aesthetic we’re going for—it’s just too modern and playful. Additionally, the neckline laces feel cheap and plasticky, which detracts from the overall look; we’ll likely remove and replace them with something more natural like leather cord or cotton to better match the theme. Overall, it’s a solid shirt with great potential and strong construction, but those small mismatched elements make us lean toward returning it or swapping for something more purely period-appropriate. If you’re less strict about the details or want a fun costume piece, it could work well—otherwise, keep shopping for that perfect Ren Faire gem! 3 out of 5 stars. Read more

I got this “medieval pirate shirt” from Runcati for a Halloween constume, mostly to go with the tavern wench costume my wife is working on. The shirt is better made than many of my normal wardrobe, so while it may be costume, it is actually fairly functional. The relatively tame cuffs and neck are actually more historically accurate than most costumes, though perhaps not the color—black with an odd rainbow threaded trim. White or plain linen was the norm. I look more dashing in black, however, and it seemed piratical enough, and nobody can see the threading. Anyway, the XL fit me (5 foot ten, not skinny) well, is comfortable, and is relatively easy to clean. With a few additions to round it out, it should be good enough for Halloween or your average costume drama. Also not expensive, and maybe usable for a yard work shirt. Read more
