It’s amazing that anything with this much fabric can be made and sold at this kind of value. Here are my thoughts on the Runcati Mens Medieval Pirate Shirt. Pros: + It is actually exactly as pictured. Kudos to Runcati for that. + It is very nice for a costume piece. As far as construction goes, it’s made as well as a mass produced piece of everyday clothing. + It’s gender neutral. Anyone can wear it. + I found the ruffles to be generous. It’s pretty tightly gathered and you’ll see in the photo that even with no pressing or starching the ruffles have loads of volume. + This would work for medieval, pirate, jester, clown, steampunk, and a lot more. Additional embellishments could really take it over the top. + Elastic wrist ruffles make pushing the sleeve up the arm really comfortable. Cons: - Of course it isn’t historically accurate in any shape or form, but it never promises to be. No gusseted arm pits. It has modern buttons. What you get is a really good base to build a costume around and the possibilities are as broad as your imagination. - It's polyester. It looks like polyester. It feels like polyester. It being polyester is its biggest detractor, BUT i find it rare for anything this affordable to be made of natural fibers. I won’t reduce review from 5 star for either of these “cons” because it’s an unreasonable expectation to hope for a more historically inspired garment made from cotton or linen. For this price I give it 5 stars with a “highly recommend”. Read more

I bought this medieval pirate shirt and this is definitely a costume piece. Let's be clear about that up front—this is designed for cosplay, Halloween, or Renaissance fairs, not for everyday wear as a regular garment. That said, my son will likely wear it on occasion as a regular shirt because he likes the aesthetic. It's decent enough quality that it can pull double duty beyond just costume events. The fabric is soft enough, but being made of polyester rather than cotton, it isn't as soft as a natural fiber shirt would be. Polyester has that slightly slick, synthetic feel to it. It's not uncomfortable, just noticeably different from cotton or linen. The shirt looks good visually. The ruffled neckline and puffed sleeves give it that authentic period costume appearance, and the fabric drapes well on the body. The way it flows and hangs looks right for the style they're going for. The material feels thin though. This is typical for costume pieces—they're made to look the part without the weight or expense of heavier, more substantial fabrics. It'll hold up to occasional wear, but don't expect the durability of a work shirt or everyday garment. My son will get a kick out of it, which is ultimately what matters for a costume piece. This is a really good shirt. I saw this and thought it would be a start to my husband finally building out his heritage kilt garments. This is well detailed with a nice rugged bent built into the construction, that offsets any question of ruffles belong on everyone. The quality is so good if you look close. The top button and hole are placed to line up the collar perfect. Even if a ruffle isn't covering it. They didn't use that scapegoat to cut costs. The neck ruffle is indeed 2 separate ones, each with finishing. The pleats themselves are pretty crisp, even before a very light steaming. The reinforced button placard and holes is really great for a wife who seems to constantly mend things. I know I won't see this come across the sewing pile for a long bit. The shoulders have good gathering to give that subtle nod to the details. Lastly, the large AND sewn down for keeps it looks, is the elastic inside the wrist cuff. It is as should be with constant movement, fitted, but not snug or straining. It also makes the cuffs fill out the ruffle theme nicely. This fit a husband with a barrel chest and long torso fabulously. He appreciated the length and said it was something he could wear for a day at the RenFaire. Material-wise, it is opaque and no undershirt is needed if it is warm out. I call this a super win for both of us. Read more

This is my 2nd shirt from this company and let me just say, this isn't a costume item. You could certainly use it as such, but if you're looking to bring the same aura to your daily wear, look no further... this shirt is it. The sewing and garment construction is over the top. The fabric quality is such that you'll wish your other shirts looked and feel this good. It breathes well so if you're layering, it'll be comfortable or if it's hot out and despite being black - it won't make you melt. Very comfortable. The material isn't going to rip. It could be at home as a normal clothing item as I stated. It's not so thick that it doesn't breathe, but not so thin that it looks see-through. The fit is very flattering. The blousey arms and ruffles probably look best in some French-inspired look, or some kind of theater flow. This would dress up well with a vest, and be at home on the streets of New Orleans in some speakeasy, or juggling knives on a street corner. Excellent garment for the money Read more
