I got a set of these right before the hard freeze last month. RVs are terrible for cold weather, and our space heaters never keep up. I gave one of these blankets to my neighbor, and hung one over the door to our bedroom. The main living space was still frosty, around 48°, but the bedroom stayed a balmy 74°, even when it was in the teens outside!!! These go in our winter emergency gear from now on!! Read more

What better opportunity to test this emergency blanket out than now? We have two furnaces, and the furnace on the lower level of our home is not working at the moment, so it is currently 58° on the thermostat, and around midday. I curled up on the sofa with this blanket to give it a try. I feel like if you turn it into a cocoon in the best way you can it's better than having your head poking out. It is translucent—while I was safely tucked inside on the sofa, I could partially see through the blanket. It looks and feels like the material of a mylar balloon. I think it's best paired with other adequate winter wear protection (I'm currently wearing a fleece sweat suit (with an undershirt) and a fleece jacket on top. I don't have on gloves at the moment, so those still feel a little cold (as extremeties usually do). My feet aren't covered by the blanket and they feel a little colder than the rest of my body (I'm wearing socks and slippers). And even though I'm not wearing a hat, my hair scarf and bonnet are providing an extra layer of protection/warmth. It is blocking out the cold; when I emerged from my cocoon, I felt the cold immediately. It is a huge size, and the outer olive green color is neutral allowing it to blend in with the outdoors (so it's not going to draw attention easily if someone or something is searching for you—that can be a good or bad thing). Overall, I think these blankets are better to have in my EDC bag than nothing. I may need to use these in my vehicle one day, and with the included four individual packs, that means there's one for my husband and children as well. While I get to test this out within the comfort of my home, I can't even imagine what it would be like outside in the direct weather elements and on the cold ground. By the way, it can be reused. Just kiss folding it back into its original compact fold goodbye! My used one is now in a sandwich bag. I hope this review helps you as you make your decision. Read more

When it comes to survival preparedness, few items are as essential and cost-effective as a high-quality emergency blanket. The Ruten Brand Thermal Emergency Blanket stands out as a top-tier option, combining durability, performance, and compact convenience in a lifesaving package. After extensive hands-on testing and real-world evaluations, it’s clear that this blanket deserves a permanent place in emergency kits, vehicles, backpacks, and survival gear caches. The standout feature of the Ruten emergency blanket is its exceptional ability to reflect up to 90% of your body heat—a critical function in cold environments where heat loss can rapidly lead to hypothermia or shock. Made from advanced aluminized Mylar, this blanket serves as a highly effective radiant barrier, trapping warmth close to the body. In field tests conducted in sub-40°F conditions, the blanket significantly reduced the rate of body heat loss, proving its worth during unexpected outdoor exposure. Whether you're dealing with an injury, a stranded vehicle, or an unplanned night in the wilderness, this blanket can be a literal lifesaver. Beyond thermal reflection, the Ruten blanket excels as a protective shield against the elements. The aluminized Mylar material is water-resistant, windproof, and snow-resistant, providing a reliable barrier even during sudden storms. In rain tests, the blanket kept users dry when used as a poncho or ground cover. Its reflective surface also serves as a useful signaling tool for search and rescue teams, enhancing visibility in remote areas. At 63 inches by 82.7 inches (approximately 5.25 ft x 6.9 ft), this blanket offers generous coverage for most adults. It can comfortably wrap around an average-sized person or be used to cover two individuals huddled together for warmth. While the dimensions are sufficient, those over 6 feet tall may find the fit slightly snug—though this is common across most emergency blankets of this class. Still, the size-to-weight ratio remains optimal for portability. Mylar is inherently lightweight and packable, but it can be prone to tearing if handled roughly. The Ruten blanket strikes a good balance—durable enough for emergency use and tear-resistant under normal conditions—but users should exercise care when deploying it. The material can be noisy when moved, but that’s a minor trade-off for the benefits it provides. Each blanket comes folded in a compact, resealable storage pouch, making it easy to store in a glove compartment, backpack, or first-aid kit. Weighing less than 3 ounces and folding down to the size of a small energy bar, the Ruten blanket is incredibly easy to carry. Its portability makes it ideal for inclusion in car emergency kits, bug-out bags, hiking packs, and emergency preparedness kits. Every outdoor enthusiast, driver, or prepper should have at least one of these on hand. Priced affordably for the multipack, the Ruten thermal emergency blanket delivers outstanding value. Considering the potential risks of cold exposure and the minimal space and cost required, this is one of the most intelligent investments you can make for personal safety. The Ruten Brand Thermal Emergency Blanket is a reliable, high-performance survival tool that lives up to its claims. Its superior heat reflection, weather resistance, and ultra-compact design make it an indispensable addition to any emergency preparedness plan. While care should be taken with the material during use, its life-saving potential far outweighs this minor limitation. Best For: Hikers, campers, and outdoor adventurers Drivers in cold or remote areas Emergency preparedness kits (home, office, vehicle) First responders and survival training Festival-goers, runners, or marathon participants In short: Don’t leave home without one. The Ruten emergency blanket is more than just a piece of foil—it’s peace of mind when the unexpected strikes. Read more

I keep these in the side compartment of my trunk because I do a lot of highway driving for work and the idea of breaking down in freezing weather kind of stresses me out more than I’d like to admit. I opened one in the driveway just to see how big it really was and it easily covered me from shoulders to feet with room to spare, which surprised me since they fold up so small. It’s that shiny crinkly material so it’s not cozy in the traditional sense, but it feels quality and of decent thickness and weight. It should definitely provide some warmth. I like that one side is bright enough to be seen if you needed help. For something that takes up basically no space in the car, it feels like smart backup to have sitting there year round and a good value for the money. Read more
