goodbye newspaper. these are extremely good, and work exactly as you would hope. I use two squares, light the rough edges, place small scraps of wood on top and I have a solid fire in minutes. I wish I had found these sooner purely for the convenience, clean burn vs paper and consistency of getting a hardwood fire going. Read more

I was recommending these to a friend today, and I realized that Amazon says I've purchased these 4 times. Since I only need one each time to start my grills (two different size Kamado Joe), that means I've used these somewhere between ~450 and ~600 times. For someone who grills as often as I do, and is as particular about grilling as I am, that's an endorsement! As any griller knows, lighter fluid--as well as "easy light" briquets--are to be avoided at all costs. These are just compressed paraffin and wood chips, so they won't make your grill stinky or your food taste funny. These simply do the job, are incredibly cost effective ($0.17 ea), and are compact enough to easily store in a gallon zip-lock in my grill/charcoal box outdoors. They work so well that in over 10 years of kamado grilling, I've never even considered looking for anything else. When I get low, I just reorder. Read more

Great product at a great value. We've been using Rutland Safe Lite Fire Starter Squares for a couple of years now. They are simple to use; they light easily and have a clean scent. They break with a slightly jagged edge, which makes lighting them a snap. I typically use 3 squares in my fireplace, but fewer would be needed in smaller applications. Read more

Just learned about these and, wow, they work amazingly well. I break them in half to use. Since using them, I’ve never had any trouble getting the squares lit or the fires started quickly and easily. What a time saver they have been. I have already ordered another box. Read more

Please see user Pix I bought this product because I wanted a fast way to start a log fire in my fireplace. I was tired of using newspaper to light up my fire logs and those "anytime log" can be expensive. The bottom line is that this product works and I am very satisfied. However, I gave it a 4 star due to the Pros and Cons and I am listing below (in no particular order). Pros: -Affordable when compared to different fire starter methods -Individual Pieces are breakable. You only use what you need. -Plenty of material There are a total of 144 squares. there are 12 brick. Each brick has 6 squares by 2 squares pieces Cons. -Packaging Material can be better. Since this item will last you for several months, it should come in a plastic or metal box. instead it came with a thin paper box. it will fall apart after a few uses -Each square is thin. it is about .33 inches thick -Each Square will only last 2-3 minutes In Summary this product is exactly what I wanted. It works and is affordable. Due to the fast burn time, I usually use 2 squares and this is more than enough to get a fire started on my firewood. Also it helps to stack your firewood in a manner that you will promote a "chimney effect" so that air can be rushed/drawn from the bottom to the top of the firelogs. I put the squares on the bottom of the fireplace and stacked my firewood like a pyramid. I hope this helps Read more

Lights fires, good value. I had been using the zip fire lighters. They work better but they’re a lot more expensive. These work fine. You do have to holder the lighter on the corner for a few seconds but once it starts it stays lit. Keeps burning well. I I use in my fire place with a few pieces of fatwood and the fire gets going first time every time. For the price, I’m definitely sticking with this brand. Note: I assume that these would light fine with a ferro rod if you shredded the edges a little bit but I haven’t tried that yet. Also, although these have heavy wax, you’d have to keep them dry for best results. Read more
