this thing is bad ass... idk what more expensive models do thats better, maybe varible temps? it does get pretty intense heat tho I just unplug an sort of control the temp by using the residual heat. anyways I have been melting broken plasic back together for years, and it was always real janky. This is a great kit for the money. If you are looking for a cost effective option for repairing plastic- this is the one to get. My only complaint is that the larger LDPE sticks were not labeled and I had to check the item listing here. But that's it. If you've never done this before, watch a few YT videos. But always follow these 3 rules: 1. Safety first. This thing turns plastics into almost liquid and will start a fire if left unattended. 2. Cleanliness of your plastic surfaces to be welded is crucial. 3. Always identify your parent material and your filler material. (Use the small testing sticks) This is similar to traditional metal welding. Your welds will fail if the above rules are not followed. Read more

This is a good little plastic welding iron kit. I also bought the staple-type plastic welding gun, but I wanted an iron for the times when I really needed to melt or shape the plastic. I also have an old cheap soldering iron I keep for the times i just need to burn/remove plastic so that I can keep this iron cleaner and more functional for detailed work. This kit comes with all kinds of extra stuff that you'll find useful on your projects. The only drawback is that it doesn't come with it's own case to keep everything in. For me, this wasn't a problem because my plastic welding gun came with a nice case, and so I keep all the odds and ends in the case, and then I keep the iron and gun in a toolbox with my soldering tools and hot glue gun. I do recommend getting the stape-style gun if you do a lot of projects. You need to be able to use multiple methods when working with plastics, especially car interior pieces and panels. Read more

Great set to start with if you're a beginner like me. I've never plastic welded anything before and wanted to repair my electric scooter's dust cover for the rear wheel. It snapped apart because of a bump in the road and they wanted almost 120 bucks to replace it. I chose to do it myself. The device heats up rapidly and if you youtube a bunch of plastic welding videos they show you how to repair these very quickly. Saved myself a good penny and learned a new skill!
