Convenient and Efficient

I've been using the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless Heat Gun mainly for applying heat shrink to wine bottle caps, and it has been a great tool for the job. The most striking feature is its cordless design, which offers incredible convenience and flexibility. Being free from the constraints of a power cord allows for much easier maneuverability, especially in areas where an outlet isn’t readily available. In terms of performance, this heat gun definitely does the job well. It heats up quickly and provides a consistent output, which is crucial for precise tasks like sealing wine bottles. The battery life is quite impressive too – I can get about 30 minutes of continuous use from a 4Ah battery, which is more than enough for most projects. This Ryobi heat gun is a valuable addition to my toolkit, especially for tasks that require mobility and ease of use. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable and cordless solution for their heat application needs. Read more

Great Heat Gun… After a Little Drama

Okay, let’s talk about the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless Heat Gun (P3150). When it works (which it now does), it’s an absolute tool dream—lightweight, powerful, and perfect for a variety of tasks. The fact that it’s cordless is a huge win for anyone who hates dealing with tangled wires while trying to heat up materials or strip paint. It’s quick, efficient, and I’m honestly loving how convenient it is for my DIY projects. But here’s the catch: when I first received the heat gun, it was like the universe decided to play a cruel joke on me. It didn’t work. At all. I thought, “Hey, no worries, it’s Ryobi, I’ll just charge it up and get to work.” Spoiler alert: It didn’t work after charging. I checked everything, fiddled with it, and was ready to throw in the towel. After a frustrating exchange process (which, let’s be real, was not exactly fun), I got a new one. This one works like a charm. It heats up quickly, has the perfect temperature for a variety of uses, and I’m back to loving Ryobi as much as I did before. It’s the kind of heat gun that makes you feel like a pro in the garage or workshop. The ergonomics are great, it’s comfortable to hold, and it gets the job done without breaking a sweat. But, yeah, the first one didn’t work—and that little hiccup did take away from the overall experience. I’m knocking off a star for the hassle I had to go through, but now that I’ve got a working one, I’m totally satisfied. So, if you’re in the market for a reliable, cordless heat gun, just make sure you get a good one from the start, and you’ll be golden. 4 stars—would be 5 if I didn’t have to deal with the initial hiccup, but once it’s working, it’s perfect. Plug in power, without the wall outlet

I bought this for heat-shrink tubing when working on car wiring harnesses, because nobody has time to deal with cables, but found so many more uses, like stripping old paint when refreshing kitchen cabinets, removing old adhesive, and installing window film insulation. It does kill batteries pretty quick, but not as fast as they take to charge, so if you have at least two you should be good to go. Read more

Works better than expected

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Not as hot as a 110v, but works great. Love the capabilities and freedom of this cordless tool. Read more

Perfect for defrosting in the winter months

I use it for defrosting equipment in the winter months. Perfect for that but the battery doesn't last long. Long enough for my needs though. Read more

You’ll have better luck using a hair dryer.

The worst. I ordered this to use to remove some large stickers and finish some candles. This unit doesn’t get anywhere near as hot as advertised. I can almost touch the end of it after it’s been running for over 30sec. Never gets even as hot as my hair dryer. I thought I maybe got a defective unit, so I ordered a replacement, stupidly assuming the new unit would work. I waited too long to find out the exact same thing was happening — barely any heat, no matter if I used 4ah or 6ah batteries (those are strong enough to run my Ryobi lawnmower for 20min btw). I can’t get a simple sticker off glass bc it’s barely warm to the touch. Sadly now I can’t return it. I’m stuck with not one but TWO defective units and I’m out twice the cash. Ryobi, I highly suggest you discontinue this product until it can be better designed! Read more

Fast battery drain, only medium-high heat, but heats up quickly and is convenient

This is only any good for certain sorts of small, short projects, like heat-shrink tubing around wiring. The heat level is markedly less than can be generated with a plug-in heat gun. And the battery drain is immense. The little 1.5Ah battery a lot of us like to use with a Ryobi drill-driver for its light weight? Drained in under 20 seconds with this thing. This tool is really only practically usable with the largest capacity Ryobi batteries (8Ah and up), and those cost far more than this tool does, and far more than an outlet-powered heat gun. But people report being able to run this for 10+ minutes with the biggest batteries. (I haven't personally tried it with a 12Ah, due to cost of getting such a battery.) It's not useless, but if you need to do something big like heat-gun a vinyl wrap loose from your car, or you need a high-temp application like melting certain sorts of stuff, you're going to need a non-battery-powered heat gun, because this one will run out of battery, even if you have a big pile of batteries, before a big job is done, and simply doesn't have the heat-generating power for certain applications. On the up side, it gets to its peak hot level pretty quickly, and it will be useful in circumstances where a corded heat gun won't work for you. (Just bring a whole duffel bag full of batteries.)
