I'm glad I finally bought it.

I'm not gonna lie: I'm pretty cheap sometimes. I thought it was probably fine to buy cheap, no-name peripherals like USB hubs and card readers. I actually only bought this Sabrent USB card reader because I liked how it looked. I wanted something heavy and substantial, that would not move around every time I bumped the cord, and this device is certainly that. It has considerable heft and a foam rubber base that keeps it firmly in place. Aesthetically, it is fantastic, surpassing what I was hoping for in form and function. It does not look like a cheap toy sitting on my desk, and as I often meet clients informally at my workstation, it has always bothered me that a lot of adapters look out of place on a professional desktop. This makes me feel like I have a modern day old Swingline stapler. It is a serious tool for a serious professional, not a piece of junk for a kid's Minecraft rig. As soon as I took this out of the box, I was satisfied with it. So, imagine my surprise when I learned that I have literally spent months or years of my life waiting for file transfers because I didn't buy this sooner? I immediately noticed that this Sabrent card reader has much better data throughput. I plugged this device into the same port my old one was in, and nothing else changed. Whatever Sabrent does when they build this card reader, they do better than the off brand stuff I've been buying most of my life. The same SD card, the same USB port on the computer - and at least 30% faster throughput due to higher and more stable transfer speed. I bought this looking for a pretty desk accessory, and discovered that it not only makes my desk look better, it does data transfer a whole lot better. I debated over this for a while before I finally bought it, because I didn't realize it was going to also boost my productivity. I recommend this hands down, because in spite of the fact that it is one of the more expensive card readers on Amazon, it is a better value than the other card readers are. This device delivers a satisfyingly substantial feel and top-notch performance. I only wish I had bought it when I first considered it. Read more

After 10 years - 5+ Star purchase

The “3Port Type A” works great with my Mac Mini M1. Just purchased the Mac Mini M4 so this hub will be much needed for USB A and the card reader. Bought in 2016 and still beautiful as an addition to my equipment. Read more

Good, but careful if you upgrade to El Capitan.

James HallenbeckOctober 15, 2015✓ Verified purchase

This is a nice USB hub. I have it connected to a Mac Pro and despite some of the other reviews saying this device only works at USB 2.0, mine is USB 3.0 and is quite fast. It is a good looking device that seems very well built. The only issue I have that make me rate this three stars rather than four or five is that the memory card readers do not work with the Mac Pro. I believe this is because I have upgraded to El Capitan as the memory card readers do work when connected to my MacBook Pro that has not been upgraded to El Capitan. So I am hopeful the memory card reader will start working on the Mac Pro once Apple decides to give us an update to El Capitan. But if you are running El Capitan and must have the memory card working on day 1, you may want to go with something else that has been verified as working with El Capitan. I'll update my review when it starts working fully, presuming it will. UPDATE: all is well now. Not sure what fixed it, but I think it was an update to El Capitan. This is a good product, the only issue I have is the angle of insertion for an SD card is a bit strange. Works great and it isn't difficult to get the card in, but you need to align it right. Nice Item, great customer support!

I purchased this hub early last fall. I did not have a need for the SD card reader until recently. Alas, I found it did not work. The SD cards wouldn't mount on my Mac. I came hear to read other reviews and noticed that it wasn't that rare for the SD reader to be inoperable. I took a chance and contacted customer support. After just a couple of questions they are sending me a new device--more than 8 months after the purchase date. I will say the price was very good, but this type of quick and helpful customer service is wonderful and certainly worth a few pennies more. Read more

Very nice USB card reader.

This item is well built and look good on my desk. I use all the ports, all the time and they have been holding up very well. It would be nice if it were just a little heavier so it would stay still while plugging in cards, but it really is pretty easy to use. It has a very compact footprint and takes up very little desk space. Read more

Type C connector seems faster

TacomaDroneFebruary 20, 2025✓ Verified purchase

In 2017 I bought a similar USB hub (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M5CPP67) that connected to my iMac with a regular USB-A connector. Advertised as "speeds up to 5 gpm" just like this one. Worked fine until this year when it started to repeatedly eject a thumb drive that was permanently parked there and used for data backup. I tested the thumb drive, it was fine, so I figured that the hub was at the end of its useful life (7 years is pretty good!) Bought this one, very similar, advertised as "up to 5 gpm", but of course it has a USB-C connector. I had an unused USB-C port on the back of my iMac. So the first plus for this product is that I gained a USB-A port on my iMac when I made the switch. The 2nd plus? My first backup happened so fast! I'm not a computer geek so I don't have any explanation why. All I can say is that it's way faster than my old one, at least when using an ordinary thumb drive. Haven't used the SD slots. Read more
