I'm a graphic design student, so I needed a desk that can support my 21.5" Mac desktop computer as well as have that split top draft table feature - since I also create speed art videos. The negative reviews made me skeptical, but trust me when I say I'm more than happy with my purchase! I received it a day earlier than expected. Upon opening the box, everything was in excellent condition and all the hardware was there. The only negative thing I have to say about it was the instructions. I do think the instructions could've been more clear. However, the instructions weren't terrible to the point where I couldn't assemble it. I was able to assemble it just fine! It is absolutely perfect, it has everything I've been looking for in a desk and it's incredibly study. The shelf is also adjustable! So is the desk! I'm very short so I didn't need to adjust the height of the desk - the shelf I did adjust a bit and my Mac desktop sits nicely on it. I know I will have this desk for many years to come, makes an excellent workspace! I'd like to note: I purchased two accessories for my desk (each sold separately) a light fixture and a cell phone clamp. Compact, versatile, and functional to summarize the outstanding points of this drafting table. I needed a new table that can fit my needs to maximize space efficiency and fit my needs as an illustrator and graphic designer. Pros: A lot of surface area, height adjustable, higher than normal tilting angles, split levels for placement of various tools such as mouse, keyboard, monitor, illustration boards, etc. Cons: Deceptively detailed instructions, assembly requires a bit of planning and forethought before starting, heavy, no storage space/cabinets for illustration tools, certain parts need to be forced into place to fit properly. Other thoughts: I would have given this table a 5/5, but had to take one star off for the tediously deceptive instructions that came with it... which eventually led to me unscrewing one of the hinges and reattaching it differently to make it work correctly, and of course no storage bin attached like a majority of the other drafting tables to hold illustration tools, templates, rulers, etc. Other than that, it is extremely space efficient, sturdy, height adjustable so I can work sitting down, or standing up, and fits my needs perfectly. Very sturdy and well made. I really like this table. It is adjustable for height in 1 inch increments. I am short so this helps a lot. It can also be adjusted taller for people who need the extra height. The back shelf is height adjusted separately from the table. The shelf can be adjusted down to be flush with the table which adds nearly 10 inches to the flat surface for larger projects. Otherwise, the shelf can be adjusted taller for your desk lamp. Installation: Took about 1.5 hours to assemble. Not difficult but there are 3 long cross braces, 4 L brackets, 2 brass hinges for the split top and multiple screws. It comes with a small Allen wrench to attach the hinges. You will need a Phillips head screw driver. Installation suggestion: Put the L bracket in the front left corner of the table on before attaching the Left hinge. The screw for the L brackets needs the Phillips Head screw driver. Otherwise, if your screwdriver is too long, you will have to remove the hinge to install that particular L bracket. We did have one issue with trying to lower the shelf, but figured out a way to do it. Here's the easy trick for lowering the shelf. Watch your fingers and arm while using this method to lower the tilting surface - but it can be done safely. Standing behind the table to access the hinge on your left (right hinge from the front of the table). 1. Raise the tilting portion all the way up with your left hand and continue to hold the tilting surface.. 2. Push on the hinge with your right hand and the tilting surface goes down easily. Use your left hand to lower the surface slowly and remove your right hand once you have the shelf coming down smoothly. This trick does not require a great deal of strength, I could do it easily. And in response to earlier reviews, there are two extending brass hinges both labeled R. The part list on the instructions do show that there should be 2 hinges labeled R. Although this seems odd, they do appear to be the correct parts for this design. Read more

I just received this table five hours ago and almost assembled it. The problem I ran into is this: three of the knobs that raise the tables do not fit the fixture. One worked really well but the other three did not. I oiled them, I made sure the holes were aligned properly so that I could screw them in and I tried all knobs in four fixtures but three out of the four would not screw in. And so to make the table stay the height I wanted it temporarily, I took long and thin screws from my garage and inserted them to give a temporary and ugly fix. It took me a good two hours to assemble it. I called Amazon immediately and the rep said, "repack it and take it to a nearest UPS and we will send you another one." I said, "baloney. I am not repacking this. I just need new knobs! The rep said, "sorry, that is the only way we could send you another one." I said "No Way. I would not unscrew all these screws, repack it and take to a UPS store. He then responded after talking to his supervisor: "Ok UPS will come and UPS will pack it and they will deliver a new on the day they pick it up. This way you can still work while you wait for the other one. The table is good. I have used it now for three hours. I can draw better on this table than regular computer table because part of it tilts. Had the quality control department of Safco did their job well, they would have gotten a five star from me.
