Recently I broke my wrist while running (llama and snake incident). I was able to hike back to the trailhead with my wrist up in the air, then drive home, then screamed out what I needed to my husband who grabbed a SAM splint from my hiking pack, fashioned it to give stability plus pulled out a sling, and only then we could think about acetaminophen, calling the doctor, getting a bag of ice. I keep one of these in each of my hiking packs, never thought I'd need one while running, and I couldn't have folded it myself as I was in such pain, but it's still better to have one than not. Thank goodness I haven’t had to use this splint yet, but I know how they work, and this is a quality brand — so I have no doubt it will perform exactly as it should. I keep one in my bug-out bag and another in my prepping cabinet. Living in a very rural area, it’s important to be prepared for any kind of accident since I’m quite a distance from an emergency room. This is legitimate SAM splint. If you need it, now you know. If you know, I hope you never have to use it. Mine live in my bags, they make really good foundations at the bottom of a bad to keep things in place. They also keep bones in place good. Make sure you know how to use it, then keep it with you.
