I bought this DVD/VCR player along with Samsung LNT4065F, both from Amazon. The player arrived quickly and was as advertised. I research my purchases carefully as my money is limited and I want the most bang for my buck. I knew it had no tuner and I knew that the VCR had to play through RCA jacks. This unit makes a real noticeable difference in my current DVD picture quality. I have no negative comments. Thanks Amazon for saving me over $50 on this purchase. UPDATE *************************** It stopped working on DVD's in February. How can a company that makes such a great LCD TV manufacture a piece of junk like this? It will work only on random DVD's. No rhyme, no reason I can discern. I have tried most everything to no avail. Oh well, it still plays VCR tapes for my grandchildren. Read more

I bought this for my parents. They had bought a Memorex but the VCR was bad on it. Looked around a long time and decided to go with this one over the Sony because of the HDMI connector. When they get a new TV we will be set. HDMI really is the way to go for connecting things up - audio and video in one cable. Only problem is it is only good for the DVD player. Still need to use another method for the VCR. The VCR is so much quieter than the Memorex that they tried. So far so good. I really don't understand the people who receive this unit and are shocked there isn't a tuner in it. It says so right in the description! Don't knock the product because you didn't read what the product is. Read more

I purchased this unit primarily because we have a lot of old VHS tapes, and I wanted to have the option of viewing them occasionally. Unfortunately, connectivity on this unit is so poor, it will not work. I was planning to use this with my wall-mounted flat-panel plasma. I have HDMI, component, and coax running through the wall, so I did not anticipate any problems. WRONG. the VCR won't output a signal on any of those. It will only output through the "line out" audio and video (3 RCA jacks). I can't even hook it up by coax cable. The unit has a coax connector, but it is only for digital sound, not video. I can't even use this unit with one of my older TVs! They only take a coax connection. This is a bad design! Why not let the VCR output through HDMI or component? ...Or at least give the option of a COAX output! Read more

Works just fine for my purposes: playing DVDs and VHSs on an older non-HD TV via the standard RCA plugs. It is tunerless, so you can't record from broadcast. I was a bit concerned about quality of these devices from reading the reviews--there are plenty of bad ratings for ALL products of this type, even when accounting for the fact that unhappy consumers are more likely to post reviews. My last one (a Sylvania) lasted two years before its early demise, so I am working on the assumption that these things are basically junk, regardless of the brand, so you shouldn't pay too much for them. With such low expectations, I am perfectly happy with it... so far!! Read more

Only problem is that I have to use my TV's remote to change the Line Input to 2 to be able to use the DVD/VHS. Have a satelitte dish and it uses Channel 3. Called Samson'sCustomer Service and they didn't have a great explanation as to why this player worked this way. The technician was polite and English was her first language which was a nice to treat to be able to totally understand her. Also the remote for the DVD wouldn't program my TV so I could use just the DVD remote to change the line input. Technician checked to see if other codes were available but only had the one I was using (Emerson TV). I have 2 other samsong combination units and they don't require the line input change. Perhaps it is because this is a tunerless unit?? Thank goodness I could find the TV's remote or I would not be able to use this unit. If I'd known about this quirk I would not have purchased the unit. It does have a good picture and playing DVDs and tapes are okay. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a new player so quess I will deal with the line input problem Read more

I think this is a terrific product for the price, and just terrific generally. I had no problems connecting it to the TV, the remote control works flawlessly, and I have had no problems operating it. Unlike my prior Panasonic DVD player, the Samsung is extremely quiet when playing DVDs. It also has caused no reception problems with my television, which the Panasonic did. Given its excellent features, I don't think you can get better value for the money. Read more
