Bought a few of these to keep on hand to use as external cases to backup a few laptops I have. Although one broke, the other three I have worked decently. You have to handle them with care because they are a little bit flimsy but great for the price. Read more

I was skeptical when I ordered two of these external enclosures for less than $5.00 each with shipping. But I was surprised to say the least. All the advertised parts were there, the special USB Cord, the enclosures, the SATA to USB adapter board, screws, even a screwdriver to put it all together. Make sure you are using a normal 2.5" SATA laptop hard drive to insert in the enclosure. This will not accept an IDE, EIDE, PATA drive, only SATA. That being said, it went together as expected in less than 4 minutes. The only issue I had with the assembly process was that there were no pilot holes drilled in the non-adapter end of the cover. Since the screws provided are not the best self threading screws, it would be best to drill two tiny holes in the end without the adapters, so the screws have something to bite into when installed. They do provide little bumps on that end which seems to snap into case, but I wouldn't trust these to hold the hard drive in the case. Once assembled, it functions as you would expect. You do need to plug both USB "A" ends of the cable into the computer, so that the drive receives sufficient power. The other end plugs into the drive assembly. You may need to partition and format the hard drive you place in the enclosure, but that has nothing to do with the enclosure itself. I'll buy more and place salvaged HDD's in them for inexpensive backup solutions. Read more

I received this item and while it works, it does not work as well as the other "cheap" HDD enclosure on amazon, even with both USB ends plugged into CPU still had random problems with the CPU telling me to format and the drive just being gone. With the other enclosure this has not been an issue yet. Read more

after ordering several different products, I finally got one with the connection type that matched the product description and photo. I had my hard drive installed in about 2 minutes and it has worked perfectly out of the box. At this price it is an excellent value and I am completely satisfied. Read more
