It’s soft against the skin and not scratchy, but it wrinkles easily and arrives looking very rumpled. This is not something you can throw on straight out of the package if you care about appearance. The elastic waistband is comfortable and forgiving, and the fit is true to size. It sits well at the waist and does not dig in. The drawstring is functional but basic. Be aware that the elastic waistband is very visible, which matters if you are considering this for styling or costuming. From a costuming perspective, this skirt works best as a standalone base piece for casual or rustic looks. However, the built-in shorts and the prominent elastic waist mean it does not layer easily. You cannot comfortably hide the waistband under fitted bodices or belts, and the shorts limit how it can be worn over or under other garments. I ordered this Scarlet Darkness Mini Skirt for Women Renaissance Boho High Waist Ruffle Flowy Skirts with Pockets because I loved the flouncy ruffles and the deep green color. I started wearing Scarlet Darkness several years ago; their vintage inspired designs are great for costuming, and I’ve been happy to discover along the way that I can also wear many of their styles every day. This short skirt is a great example of day wear; their vintage inspired sales page calls it “Renaissance”, but no woman would have worn a mini skirt back then. However, we do today, and I like the combination of the above knee length and the vintage inspired wide ruffle at the hem. This skirt is made from a blend of 95% polyester/5% viscose. The lining is made from 98% polyester/2% viscose. The fabric is lightweight, it does have a bit of a tendency to wrinkle, but a few minutes with my hand steamer and the wrinkles are gone. Even though the skirt is short, the fabric has some flow; the pastiche waistband is very comfortable, and the skirt hits me a bit above the knee (I’m 5’2”, so it’s longer on me than the model in the photos, where the hem is mid thigh.) So this skirt has a secret—it’s hiding a pair of shorts underneath. Does that make it a skort? I’m not sure… I thought skorts were more of a skirt in front, shorts in the back hybrid. I actually love the lightweight shorts for modesty, especially under a shorter skirt like this. I ordered this in a size M; I usually wear a size 6 in jeans and a S or M skirt. The M is just a touch larger in the waist than I needed, but the drawstring let me pull it in a bit. I have an hourglass figure, and the wide elastic waist is figure flattering; I also like the swoop of the wide ruffle at the hem. At the current price ($16.99) this is a great bargain for a cute skirt with some of the vintage charm Scarlet Darkness does so well. The skirt is well made, nicely sewn with no loose threads. I love the pockets—I’m a type 1 diabetic, and the pockets are so convenient for my insulin pump. I think my favorite things about this skirt are the deep emerald color and the hidden shorts. What a great idea—a pull on, elastic waist skirt with shorts underneath. While the deep green fabric is opaque, the shorts add an extra layer of modesty. This has a more modern feel than Scarlet Darkness’ petticoat inspired maxi skirts, but it still has the great blend of comfortable modern construction and vintage style notes I associate with the brand. A perfect skirt for spring, I’ve been wearing it now (February) with tights underneath for warmth, and it looks great with boots and a sweater for a winter look. (it does take a bit of adjusting with the tights underneath the shorts) Come spring, this will pair easily with tees, tanks, and even vintage inspired tops. Read more

I'm a Scarlet Darkness junkie. I LOVE their stuff, especially their skirts. This is the shortest of their skirts I own (I have a couple of their dresses about the same length) and it's about as short as I can get away with, but when it's appropriate, I love it. Here's my overview: Comfort: Super-soft fabric and a nice stretch to the elastic at the waist. True to size, and comfy to wear. Style: It has a cute layered look, and a wave to the layers that gives it a different look. It's subtle, but unique. It definitely gets some attention when I wear it. Best of all, like all Scarlet Darkness' skirts and dresses: POCKETS!!!! Quality and Value: Nice material and good-quality construction. For the price, it's a steal. I can't believe they sell it at this price, it is worth so much more. Overall Assessment: Cute, comfortable, short, and POCKETS. What's not to love?
