The best antichlor product.
Ive used several brands of aquarium chemicals and conditioners. Prime is the best Ive found that removes chlorine, chloromine, ammonia and some heavy metals. Its fantastic at doing this. Following the listed dosing instructions seldom leads to any issues. But, the dosing instructions are only estimates as every municipal water system has differing amounts of hazardous chemicals and can even vary hour to hour. You can safely overdose the suggested amount to treat heavily doped city water. Bit if you do overdose too much, and far exceed the amount of chemicals in the water, Prime will tend to go after oxygen in the water too. If you notice the fish at the top gasping for air after adding a large dose of Prime, youve likely overdosed Prime. You can solve this overdose within often minutes by having an air stone bubbling heavily in the tank water. This will usually get enough water and air circulated to get oxygen back into the water within minutes. Frankly most tanks can benefit from an air stone all the time anyway. But if you follow dosing instructions, youll find you can use less Prime than the other brands and save some money while protecting your fish from municipal chemicals. Prime doesnt add slimecoat to the water. So sensitive fish like Cories and Loaches are better served. You can also use Prime to clean filter media recycled with Ammonia. High doses of Prime removes the ammonia solution used to clean. It can be added at each water change or small doses can help alleviate ammonia or nitrite spikes temporarily. It can be purchased in small little 250ml bottles clear up to 2l bottles for ponds or if you use it to detoxiify ammonia soaked Purigen. It does have an expiration date but will isually at last a year or so after bottled. Just be sure its shaken and mixed before applying. Also both in the bottle and when nuetralizing chemicals, it gives off a strong sulphur odor that disipates quickly. Sniffing the bottle could make you sick. You can store it at room temperature but dont let it set out in sunlight or to freeze. This is the most important and reliable chemical treatment I use. And I use it often in my tanks, especialy during water changing days. I usually get 1L or 500ml at a time. If youve only got one small tank, the 250ml size might be better for you. I always keep it on hand. Read more
