Simply The Standard Nowadays

Chris CMarch 22, 2021

Most NAS' nowadays, notably at least Asustor and Synology, do the Seagate SMART monitoring thing perfectly, which is the main reason I chose these over WD's. These were "renewed" or something. They came perfectly packed and worked perfectly and do everything perfectly. There is literally no drive noise at all. These are in the Asustor, which is on a shelf about 5 or 6 feet to my right. In the Asustor, they're fast! They're at least as fast as any of the drives in an aging dual core 3 gigahertz Pentium machine with SATA. You do something and it "feels" like you're doing it to an internal drive in the computer! I think you'd need at least 2.5gbE to max the speed of these drives out. (Which I don't have yet; I only have gigabit.) Highly recommended. They've been flawless since the end of January, which, at the risk of jinxing it, probably means they won't break for decades. Died after a year

Steven WheelerFebruary 24, 2022

Started reporting failed sectors after just a year in service. Next time I'll pay extra for new so I can get the 3 year manufacturer warranty, 90 days is just too short on something that is expected to run 24x7x365 for years without issue. Read more
