This shaved ice attachment for a kitchen aid mixer works well, but seems overpriced for what it is. It's an attachment that you add to the front of the mixer that crushes ice cubes made of juice. You get a number of cups to make the juice in, but I cannot determine if anything - including the cups - is dishwasher safe. As a result, I have decided to handwash everything, meaning we don't use it as much. I think ideally it'd be nice to be able to crush ice and use those cubes as the base for a smoothy - but that is not how this product works. You must freeze juice in the provided cubs. For the price, I think that everything should be made of higher quality materials and that it should be clearly dishwasher safe. Read more

The media could not be loaded. This ice shaver isn't made by Kitchen Aid but it is made specifically for the Kitchen Aide stand mixer and it is a quality made product. It took me a minute to figure out how to get the molded ice blank into the device but once I did, it was so easy to use and it makes perfect shaved ice. One end of the device is a spring loaded plunger that keeps the ice on the blade. The opposite ends is the end that opens to place the ice blank in place. The unit comes apart by pushing down slightly as you turn, rotating from locked to unlocked position using the engraved "lock" and "unlock" markings for reference. Whatever you freeze, it must be frozen in the included cup mold for no more than 24-48 hours so it isn't too hard for the shaver to easily cut it up. You take the ice out of the freezer and allow it to warm for 6-8 min which gives it time to melt enough that you can remove the ice blank from the cup. I had to tap the cup upside on the counter but it did come out in 8 min without needing to run water over it. The ice goes into the unit with smooth end first and the grooved end last. Line up up the piece you removed earlier on the landmarks and push down as you turn it to "lock". Insert the device into the Kitchen Aid the same way you add any Kitchen Aid accessory by removing the cap from the front of the machine and inserting the post into the hole. Tighten it in place. If you have the mixer bowl in place, be sure it is empty so the motor can turn freely and also remember to place some sort of receptacle to catch the shaved ice. Turn the machine on to 6-8 and shave away. The shaver comes with a recipe booklet. You can make Halo Halo, snow cones, sorbet, granita, slushy and margaritas. You can freeze water, yogurt, or fruit juices or purees. The biggest downside -and why I gave it 4 stars-is that you have to use the ice mold included in order to fit into the machine properly which means you can only freeze 10 pucks a day. If you have a small party and make a delicious drink, production won't last too long. You have to use their proprietary molds because the grooves on the bottom are important. You also have to plan ahead in order to freeze them overnight but not too far ahead since they don't recommend freezing longer than 48 hours. It would be better if you could use ice any size/shape of ice cube. Read more
