This shower drain hair guard is essential for old houses. Simply rest the item over the existing drain and the silicone ring will create a “suction” effect which prevents the item from slipping around. A note is that under normal operation the side vents appear to be non-functional. But when the water is shut off then the side vents will allow the water to drain and prevent pooling. It is very easy to install, simply rest it over your current drain. It will catch loose hair and prevent it from going into the drain. After each shower it is recommended to check the hair catcher and remove any strands of hair that are present. During my product testing I noticed that the drain makes a faint gurgling noise as the water spills into the drain. Please note this is normal operation of the hair guard and should not be a cause for concern. It appears that the product was designed for stand alone tiled showers or shower inserts. But during testing it works well in a bathtub / shower combo. The shower drain looks very pleasant. With 2 color options available one will certainly suite your tastes. It is very easy to clean, simply lift the cover off the drain, flick any pieces of hair into the bin, and then rest the guard back on to the drain. The metal material that is in the center of the drain feels high quality, and adds weight to the drain and makes it not slip as easily. The plastic silicone material around the side forms a sort of gasket and ensures a snug fit. This was the THIRD order of a tub drain hair catcher thing. Third time was the charm! This item is absolutely perfect!!! Stays in place even with the faucet hitting it full on. Drains beautifully and the loose hair are safely caught on top. Very easy to clean off the wet hair. Does not cause the soap stuff to end up not going down the drain (another product caused massive stoppage of the soap draining and I ended up with a tub completely full of soap scum after all water finally drained). This product, nope! It's stainless steel so it's got some heft, a narrow silicone band around it which helps it stay in place. (A previous product - I ended up having to fish out the hair 2 to 3 times DURING the shower!!!) This, nah, no issues, hair floated around in the thin layer of water caused by shower, water turned off, all the hair (well, most, some hair are bound to get stuck on the tub floor if it's further back, tho) would collect together in one clump on the top of the holes. Got this for my shower when I realized I could not lift up the drain to clean out underneath it. It just sits on top of the flat drain and catches most of the hair before it goes down into the actual drain. You can then just easily wipe it off or pick it up to clean up the hair. I wasn't sure it would stay in place, but it actually does just sit there without barely moving. Its super easy to use and accomplishes the goal of keeping hair out of the drain! Only thing to note is that it does make the water drain more slowly, so the bottom of the shower has more water in it than normal. Its not at all an issue for me but might bother someone. Read more

Exactly what I was looking for. Definitely works to prevent hair escaping down the drain. It does slow the water flow a bit, but not to the point that it’s slippery or dangerous. One star deducted because it is pretty easy to dislodge from the drain it should be covering. I had hoped it would have a bit more friction or weight. I recently had two new showers installed, so I purchased two of these for the showers. The quality of these shower drain strainers and hair catchers are exceptional. The metal, center weighted strainer is surrounded with a rubber-like material. They fit perfectly over the drains and stay in place, allowing the water to drain efficiently. They also look great! This style fits our shower very well, it does resist movement when you step on it and doesn't feel like it will move on you. It's low profile is ideally suited for that very reason. After a couple of showers it proved to be very effective in keeping hair (visually) from going down the drain. It seems very easy to clean as well, simple wipe and it's good to go.
