My new favorite fire starter. I bought this for scout campouts to help them make tinder. They love it! I love it! Makes it so much easier. I will say you need quite a bit of the shavings to get it to start in my opinion. But other than the it worked great. The actual “flint and steel” work better than other starters i have as well. Even my son liked it better. I gave it 4 stars as i do not think the grater will last long as it may dull rather quick depending on how often it is used. Read more

Overall, I'm impressed. This thing is easy to use to make tinder for starting a fire. Be careful though, the grater is SHARP and will peel the skin. I love the small size and negligible weight of this. It stores in a pack without much room and seems pretty durable after using for several months. I use a larger ferro rod, but this one would work in an emergency. It's a nice add to the package. For the money, this seems like an instant value to add to any fire kit.
