I have been looking for a lap desk for myself for a while (I bought my wife one a while ago, but can't find them anymore). I finally decided to look on Amazon and found this one. I like to do a lot of work on my laptop while watching TV, and also to grade papers while reclining on the couch, so I needed one with a good stable workspace that was big enough to allow this. This fits the bill perfectly! Here are my Pros and Cons: Pros: -Large workspace; lots of room to work, eat, etc -Very Stable -Wood Top -Good looking -Memory foam bottom is very comfortable -Easily stores despite its size Cons: -LARGE! It spans the entire seating area of my Lazy Boy recliner. As another reviewer said, be sure you take this into consideration! -Heavier than you might think. You do not feel it when its on your lap, only when you pick it up. Thankfully it has a cloth handle on the top that makes picking it up easier. -Will be hot after long use (makes your lap hot); this could be fixed if the memory foam had a hump in the middle (it is one piece from front to back). None of these is a dealbreaker; I would still recommend this to anyone. Read more
As a professor I constantly need a tool like this either to put the laptop on and I use an external Mouse with a mouse pad and there's plenty of room for that on this desktop. Also it's fine for reading a book of any size which is also part of what I do all day long everyday. I don't tend to use this in the living room for food or snacks, but it would be perfect to put on your lap while you're watching TV and having your dinner. It's extremely comfortable with proper padding underneath that's not too much like a bean bag like some others I have purchased in the past. So far a perfect device and addition to my reading room as a critically important tool to all my academic work reading books and writing notes on pads and journals and using the laptop as well. I love this lap desk! It came with a slight smudge on the surface; otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. It's the perfect size for my laptop and mouse; the memory foam is very comfortable on my lap; and the surface is smooth, but not glossy. I especially like that there are no indentations or cutouts on the surface to interfere with writing on paper with a pen or pencil. Read more
I made this purchase in about mid-May of 2022 and I'm writing this review after using it for approximately 1.5 months. I have an ASUS ROG 17.3" laptop; it is big and heavy. I was impressed that this lap desk was lightweight and yet big enough for it... and, I still had barely enough room to use a mouse if needed (although with limits). See the pictures I took with my laptop on it. Years ago, I had been given a "bean bag" type lap desk with a bending light but the bending light was a useless nuisance and it and it's "holder" took up too much of the desk top space making it less functional. As time went on, it became more uncomfortable as the styrofoam beads became worn from the weight of my heavy laptop and that's how I ended up deciding to purchase a new one. When making my decision, I worried that the memory foam bottom would be either too thick making the lap desk too high) or too thin (making it uncomfortable) or that it would cause the lap desk to be too rigid (as the flexibility of my previous "bean bag" bottom was good for variations in how and where you sit so far as keeping a semi-flat surface). But I'm happy to say that I have zero issues with the memory foam bottom of this one in comparison to the styrofoam bead bottom of my previous one. So here are my "Cons" or criticism: *** I paid about $37 for it on sale. The top itself of this lap desk appears that it might be just a laminate or heavy "contact paper" over either a piece of particle board or heavy pressed cardboard (or possibly even plastic) so I feel this should be priced at $30 or less. After all, (at the time of this review) even with the recent inflation, you can get a half inch 4' x 8' sheet of particle board for twenty five bucks and a 2" gel infused memory foam mattress topper for an entire twin-sized bed for only forty bucks. I'd guess there's five to ten bucks only in materials here, but I could be wrong. *** Because the lap desk top seems cheaply made and because I read other reviewers say their laminate warped and became damaged, I am careful not to place anything even slightly damp or hot (like a sweating cold drink or mug of coffee or tea) on it and I'm careful that nothing scratches it. I wish they had disclosed what the actual top is constructed of but not even a hint is given and that makes me wonder why. *** Although I haven't had any issues with the product I received, I did not like the responses/options other reviewers were given by the company when they had issues with the product they received and this made me wary about this purchase. A couple reviewers received damaged products straight out of the box and it seemed like the customer service they received was pretty shoddy and that the company didn't completely stand behind their product; this made me nervous about making this purchase. *** I'm sure the memory foam will weaken over time but this really is to be expected as that is what happens with memory foam, (ah, memory can be fleeting)... but it should last a long time, we will see... and if not, well... there's that 2" gel infused memory foam twin size mattress topper for forty bucks, you could take some scissors to it... Now, for the "Pro's": *** It is a really great size. No matter what size your laptop is (or if you are using one or not), this is a great size, not too big and not too small and if you have a really large laptop like I do, it will fit with a little extra room to spare, I was impressed with that. *** It is very comfortable and lightweight. Although it probably weighs about the same as my previous styrofoam bead lap desk, this one is much more comfortable, even with my huge, heavy laptop on it. *** Despite the cheapness of the top of it, it still looks quite nice and has a solid sturdy feel to it. Just take care with it as I question its durability. *** I like the angled design. The memory foam is slightly thicker at the back and thinner towards the front which enhances its functionality by allowing you to create the perfect angle for your work surface. *** I was initially concerned that the shape and "curves" of the desk top would make it less functional but I found it to be quite the opposite instead, making it a really good fit and design that still left a lot of space on the desk top itself. *** The bottom of my laptop has rubber or silicone feet in the front as well as a long strip along the back to help it grip the surface it's on and it has no problem firmly gripping the surface of this lap desk. *** It is easier to store than my previous styrofoam bead type because it keeps its shape and it is sleeker and less bulky. *** I'm glad that it DOES NOT have a wrist rest to hinder it's functionality. I'm not sure if some models do come with a wrist rest so be sure to read the description carefully if this is important to you. In summary, I'm very happy with this purchase and I do recommend this lap desk and if I find anything further that causes me concern or to change my opinion I will update this review to reflect that.
