There's a lot to like about this soldering pencil, and a number of things that are a disappointment. First off, I'm using this pencil exclusively to install hot set brass inserts in 3D printed objects. Temperature is set to 240°. Did not calibrate. THE GOOD: • Temperature control with readout. Easily visible numbers. • Simple temperature setting (2 buttons). Remembers last temp setting • 3-prong plug that actually grounds the tip (good for working on static sensitive electronic parts) • Quick heating and recovery (didn't time warm-up, but seems close to claim of 10 sec.) • Works very well out of the box for inserting hot set inserts. THE NOT SO GOOD • Instructions printed on back of the box, which you are likely to toss unless you cut it out. How about a printed sheet, clearly translated? • Instructions, especially "calibration," are difficult to follow. Calibration info makes up 80% of the operating instructions. You should not have to calibrate the product. Who has a thermometer that goes to 320°C, anyway? • Haven't tried the included solder. The sponge for tip cleaning is about half the size of a postage stamp and easily lost. • One video shows a nice plastic case and printed instructions. Product comes with neither. Complaints aside, the pragmatic approach for installing inserts is to try it. If the pencil heats too quickly or two slowly, adjust the temperature setting. Price-wise, it's OK. Read more
Nice product. The soldering iron itself heats rapidly and has a digital readout for temperature. I just left the setting as is. It came with multiple tips mostly in the not very tiny range. The accessories include some solder, paste, extra tips and a small iron stand... oh yea and the smallest sponge I've ever seen, fraction of a stamp size, paper thin. This was an upgrade to the really cheap one I had before... basically I'm sure it will handle any at home electrical soldering that comes up, having a temperature controlled rapid heating one is nice. The accessories will get you through a project or a few. ... that sponge I laughed at. The price was nice for an iron that heats up fast and has some digital control features, it has enough power to do some heavier than usual soldering, great, just what I was looking for. Read more

This iron is surprisingly good for the price, heats up very quickly with a digital display that optimistically shows an exact temperature. It does quite well with proper solder and heats up enough for lead-free but the tips foul very quickly at high temps and don’t work well as a result. Terrific for the money if you’re using 60/40 or eutectic. Probably better to look elsewhere for lead-free. Read more
