Excellent Player

I've been looking for something to replace my NW-S203F as my everyday and running player. Specifically I wanted something that could be used on runs, was under $100, and was NOT and Ipod. It seemed that Sony's wireless NWZ-W202BLK Walkman would be perfect for me but the headphones/in-ear component would not stay in my ear as I ran so it was a deal breaker. I sold it and found this guy instead through Sony's website and ordered it on Amazon. So far my experience with it has been incredible. The sound quality is good (4/5 since I experienced some amazing sound with Meizu's DA-M4-04-MZ3 Miniplayer), it has enough space for my needs even with a 20+ gig music collection, and I love the drag-and-drop interface and its compatibility with Media Jukebox 12 (I was using Sonicstage to transfer files over to my previous gadget and that was the worst experience ever)! The interface is incredibly easy and intuitive and the player has a lot of nice options and even language settings that change on the fly (I'm learning some French). I love its sleek design and weight which make this device low-profile. I've been mostly using the audio and radio features of this device but recently I uploaded several photos and a movie. So far they look great and I like having something to watch on road trips. There are several cons to this device as well. I've had one instance of trying to put a video on the player and it took a bit of work. Know that if you buy this player, just like all other video capable media players, you will have to convert the video file which can take several hours. I got the format wrong at first so no video played but the sound was still good. Then I tried a different compatible format and that didn't work either, however, after reading the fine print, I noticed that the player only supports a maximum video bitrate which will affect the video's size (MB) and quality (kbps). Fortunately Xilisoft allowed me to tweak that manually. So far, I've been able to watch the movie without interruption. The stock headphones on this device aren't amazing especially compared to what the S series version gives you. This last mention isn't a con but it would be nice if the player allowed me to choose a custom wallpaper from the pictures I have uploaded. All in all, I am completely in love with this device and will be using it for several years to come. It's intuitive, light and small, and great for running and workouts. I do plan on possibly purchasing an armband but I have no problem just holding the thing since it's so tiny. Read more

For Older Folks...Great Little Music Player....

I have never had an MP3 Player before... Truth be told I had no real idea how the little buggers worked or how to buy music from the net with one of them. So I really looked hard before I purchased this little red 8 gigabyte Sony player. I am glad I did... The sound on this little device is amazing. I had sold my cd stereo player because I needed the money and had not listened to my CD's for a long time. So I downloaded a free CD Music Ripper and Converter from the Web and copied all of the music in my CD collection and converted it to MP3. I chose the highest quality level for all of my music and although this makes for bigger file sizes, I still had 5 Gigabytes of space available for more music. WOW. Next I tried to open an account with the Itunes store but I could not seem to get past the application process. I'm a smart guy but sometimes you run into a site that just makes to hard to get into them. The Itunes store kept saying I had not answered security questions I had indeed answered. That was frustrating so I decided to do the next best thing... I went to anouther site. I am really glad I did... The site: MP3Mixx.com is so much cheaper than the Itunes site. Instead of paying $9.99 for the album I wanted I only payed $3.60! I'm 51 years old and have never downloaded music before in my life but the MP3Mixx.com folks make it really easy. The Sony folks have a site you go to to get thier helpful download software which is simplicity in itself. After downloading my music all I do is plug in the MP3 Player and a little window opens up automatically.... and you just click and drag your selected song or file of songs to that window. Your computer downloads the music to the MP3 player in about 3 seconds. It's just that easy. If You want to organize your songs into files you just do it in The Windows Explorer. I have found this is how you delete music from the MP3 Player also. All in all it is really easy to do. I found most of the functions to be intuitive and I hardly had to look at the instruction Manual at all. I think the thing that amazed me most was the size of this little guy... The picture makes it look bigger than it is... I mean it's not much larger than a book of matches and it has a lot of storage capacity and really great sound. You can't go wrong with this little device. I really like it. Read more
