Damaged all the tapes that I tried playing.....

I wanted this specific combo player as I have had this one before that I had used for many years, transferring tapes digitally onto my computer as well as DVD's. Received this in the mail, everything was very neatly packaged and easy to set up. When I put a tape into the machine (not a very old tape, and has played on other players before with no issue) the machine started playing it just fine, the audio was great and the picture was better than on the other VCR's I've used. However, about 45 minutes in, the picture out of nowhere became very distorted, and the tape abruptly stopped. When I went to eject the tape, it came out all mangled. Thinking this was an issue with the tape, I put in a different tape to see what would happen. The machine started making a very loud sound, and before I knew it, it BROKE my tape in half. Tried two more tapes after this, same issue where the VCR made a very loud sound, stopped playing, and then ejected the tapes all mangled. I'm hoping this is just an isolated incident with this particular unit I received, but this is very disappointing as I really like this player overall and want to use it, but I heavily advise testing out the tapes first, especially ones that are of non-importance if you have any so that you don't go through what I did.
