I purchased this and found it extremely easy to install and understand. The set up was simple and easy to follow. The only downfall is that is doesn't work well for 5.1 channel output into a 5.1 channel receiver. I didn't need it to do that but if you do, look for another model that offers that output option. If you are looking for a great valued DVD player that has all the basics with no fuss, no muss...then this is the DVD player for you. PROS: Easy to install, operate with a low profile/footprint for your entertainment center CONS: No individual 5.1 channel output for surround sound receivers. Read more

I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a DVD player, but I was sick of watching movies on my computer. So far the Sony DVP-NS50P/S has been a great choice! The picture quality is fantastic, it plays all the DVDs I own and has great features. You can play with the sound for theater quality or even choose a setting that turns down the sound on explosions and other loud noises so you can watch movies late at night without bothering others and still be able to hear dialogue. The remote took a little getting used to, but I like that you can power on the TV with it. My only complaint is that if the DVD is paused and you hit fast forward or rewind, it does it in slow motion. I also wish some of the buttons were a little bigger, but the remote itself is rather large and fits comfortably in my hand. The player was a snap to hook up and looks great under my television (which is also silver, they make a black colored version of this DVD player as well). So glad I purchased this and I would recommend it to anyone!! You can't beat it for the price and quality! Read more

This is just a basic DVD player, not for ones who are little tech savvy and create their own DVDs and watch various media files like MPEG 1/2/4, VCD .dat , .avi files etc. I bought this to replace my 3 year old Philips 724 DVD Player. - It does not play most of my DVD+R disc - Does not play any MPEG1/2/4 files - Its sleek but little noisy - Display is sloppy The thing is that Sony products are designed to play standard stuff and Sony proprietary technology, like a memory stick for a Sony Digital camera. In this case it playes only a standard DVD or VCD disc. So if you are into making your own personal DVD discs from your MPEG media files, VHS tapes etc then this is not the DVD player you want. Later I bought Philips DVP642 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD Player and ... woh ... it played all my DVD+R and media files like DivX, MPEG 1/2/4, VCD .dat, .avi files etc on my customized DVD+Rs. I steered away from the Consumer Reports'-recommended Panasonic DVD player when I saw customer reviews about the player freezing during playback. This Sony player, which is rated highly by CR, started freeze-framing on rental disks just 30 days after I bought it. Sony won't replace it unless it freezes with all disks. We rent a lot, and have never had any of our past 6 DVD players freeze like this, so it must be more sensitive to media scratches. Read more

Simple setup. Easy to use. No problems after a few weeks of use, but time will tell. For the money, a good value I believe - not the cheapest, but if it lasts for a couple of years I would be quite satisfied. Read more
