This player is not expensive so I don't need to go into some PRO/CONs act like so many people's reveiws do. It is strait foreward, and from a reputable company. It works! That is enough in a day and age when customers pay top dollar for things that mostly don't! It is not a 5.1 system and does not support such direct hookups, it is simple to set up and dependable to use as a DVD player. It has component video abiltiy and I have not had a skip yet since purchase(unlike my other $350 phillips system!) It has many video options including saturation and quick setups for blacks and whites to look crisp. It can use a coaxal cable for a 5.1 decoder, but those are expensive and you bought this to save dough! It supports Dolby and DTS(unlike expensive Phillips who only supports dolby). Bear in mind, Lord of the Rings will not play in that fancy 6.1 DTS as this player only supports DTS 5.1(who sells a 6.1 theater speakers anyway? -retorical question- And why did Peter Jackson impliment such a wasteful frill on his DVD's?) The player emulates sound just fine on it's own and a decoder is an option but expensive, I will probably upgrade eventually though. Nice Player, inexpensive and very good quality too! Read more

There's nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell, so I consider that a win. It's taken me a while to find a properly-functioning DVD player, and I've been happy with this one. It has a little time ticker on it, and it will tell you whether or not a disc is in it. Bonus: It plays DVDs...which is more than my last few DVD players could claim. Read more

I got this to use in my bedroom with an old analog set that I do not plan to upgrade. I frist tried an upconverting VCR with it and the picture was all distored. My 20 yr old set needed just a regular DVD. This DVD player is that and more. It is built well and feels quality. I have watched about 12 hours of movies now and it has worked pefrfect. It also has a lot of extra features. Like play fast and play slow with voice which can be very fun. Lots of searching modes...skip, advances, you name it and this has it. The best thing is being albe to use and analog set with excellent picture. Hard to find one that is not upcoverting and you don't need that on a 20 year old set. Great DVD player for the money. We purchased 2 of these units. The first was dead out of the box. The second worked perfectly - even my mother-in-law was able to use it without a problem. This seems to match the other reviews that I read. Read more

We loved this DVD player--while it lasted. It was easy to use and the sound and picture quality were both good. But after three months of fairly light use, when we tried to play anything, we got a message saying "no disc". Nothing we did to fix the problem worked. Sony offered to send us a reburbished model, which would cost $35 plus shipping, which was almost as much as it cost to begin with. Essentially the player and Sony customer support was worthless. But before we just threw the DVD player away, we thought we'd try it one more time. This time the message kept saying "cannot play disc." The tray that holds the disc is plastic and feels flimsy, which is probably the problem. So after such a short time will have to buy a new DVD player. It certainly won't be another SONY. Read more

I bought the product because my old DVD player died. The message said it could not read any of the DVD's I put in and I tried a number of different types that is said it would play. Nothing worked. I don't know if I got a defective player or if the model is no good. On the good side, the refund was rather fast. I went to Walmart and bought a different brand instead. Read more

I can't believe people are writing negative reviews on this player at all. I have seen some of them, and quite frankly some of them are just plain absurd. What do you want out of a sub $60 player? It has played every dvd i have burned flawlessly. No pixelization as you might get with some older or cheaper players. It also played a random Mp3 disk i put together with no problem...and even listed the tracks. The picture and audio are fantastic as well. Sure it doesn't have a ton of "bells and whistles" to it, but i was just looking for a basic player that would just play my dvd's flawlessly and this player does a great job of it. If you want a dvd player without the high price tag that will deliver great picture and sound, this is the one for you! Read more
