I just got it to use with my recently purchased 26" Sony Bravia HD TV. I bought the silver, because it is stacked above my HD Cable box which is also silver. I had to be creative and pilfered the isolating feet from an old, non working Laser Disc player. I attached 4 of them to the bottom of the new Sony DVD player using rubber cement tape and duct tape. I did this because, the cable box generates a huge amount of heat and the isolating feet on the DVD player are practicly flat. This is one slick looking, easy to use and gorgeous DVD player. DVDs that would not play on my old DVD player, play just fine on it. The picture is stunning and I am thrilled. It works so smoothly with my new Bravia as well. I doubt that I will ever buy a Blu Ray DVD, so I could not be happier with this one. I only paid $9.95 (with free shipping) for the HDMI cable. I bought the Cables To Go. Having just paid over $60 for an HDMI Cable by Monster, that I purchased at a Circuit City, I see no difference at all in the reception between both cables. I only bought the Monster Cable because I had returned the composite video cables to my cable company and needed an HDMI immediately. My choices, locally, were very limited. I totally recommend this player. Read more

I've had this unit for about a month and have no complaints. So far it has played every DVD without the skipping problems I was having with my old unit. I bought this one after I got a HDTV and couldn't take advantage of it with my old dvd player. I looked at Blu-Ray players but I wasn't ready to spend that kind of money especially since I suspect Blu-Ray players will be under $100 within a few years. At $80 this is a nice compromise. I'm not sure what Blu-Ray gives you that this unit doesn't, but the picture definition this unit offers is good enough for me. Read more

We got this DVD player to replace a very very old DVD player. Our requirements for the purchase: 1. Under $100 2. Improved quality over our old DVD player 3. No bright electricity-wasting lights on the unit when it is off. Overall I have been pleased with this unit. It is super quiet, and the picture quality is good. We have it connected to an old TV, so we are not wanting/expecting real HD quality. One of the features I like is that the unit is completely dark when its off. No weird lights that stay on even when the unit is turned off...this is a major plus since the DVD player lives in the bedroom (we tried a Philips DVD player, and the light was so bright that it would keep me awake). The picture quality is very good, and the remote is easy to use (it even controls our old Sony TV, so we only have to have one remote). Also, I like that the top of the case is silver...doesn't show up the dust as much as a black case! That being said, here are the minor drawbacks I have found: 1. The unit is a bit slow to load up the menu when you put a new DVD in. This isn't a big deal, but I'm not sure why it takes so long. 2. The remote is not backlit. Read more

I have used this unit since Dec.2008. No problems worked fine for four months, then during the middle of a DVD "movie" it stopped showing the movie and started repeatedly scrolling "cannot play DVD". After trying many other DVDs I gave up to the fact that it is broke for whatever reason. I called Sony to get the warranty work started. I reached a gentleman who I never did understand what his name was(the background noise in his location was so bad I could not understand or hear his name) after asking three times. Then I ask what country was he in and I did understand the word "Philippines". I told him that I could not hear him because of the background noise in his location and he told me he did not have any noise(laughingly)! For him to tell me that I had to ask him three.... times what he said, and he still though it was somehow funny. I stated my problem with the DVD player, and ask him what do I do to get the warranty coverage started and again could not hear or understand what he was saying except for bits and pieces of words now and then. Again, I told him I could not hear or understand him and at that point I could tell that he had become irritated with the situation. I repeated back to him what sounded like to me was a fee I had to pay to get the unit repaired: "I have to pay a $30.00 handling fee"? and he answered yes. Wow, what if I had paid $1000 for it and now I got to put up with this kind of service! At that point I see it like this: I paid $59.53 plus S&H for a total of $68.53 and now I have to do another $30.00 investment, I don't think so, even tho the unit was on sale. In the end I do not recommend this DVD player to anyone, due to it's short life and the very sorry service Sony is providing, I will replace it with another brand and take my chances. Read more

The player is a great improvement over standard DVD players with analog feeds. DVDs played with a picture quality rivaling HDTV. However, the unit is kaput after one year of occasional service. Read more

I used to own an older version Sony DVD (don't remember model) which looked very similar to this one but had faster loading and better layout. This DVD player is too slow to load. Even if the DVD is loaded, once you push play button, it is too slow to come up. Another thing that disappointed me is that they took away the pause button which used to be conveniently located on the unit itself. Other than these two issues, everything else is fine. Read more

This is a nice DVD player and plays a lot of different formats. The picture quality is definitely better than a regular DVD player, but it's not going to look like HD. It's slim with a decent remote control. Set up was easy. You need to buy the HDMI cable separately, and that was $10. Overall for $80, this is a good player. I will eventually get a blu-ray player once the prices are more reasonable. Read more
