I’ve been using trail cameras for years, and the Spypoint FLEX-S Dark has honestly blown me away. The built-in solar panel is a total game-changer — I haven’t had to mess with batteries once since setting it up. It stays powered, even in cloudy conditions, and the internal rechargeable battery holds a charge impressively well. Setup was super easy. The app connected right away and updates photos faster than any other camera I’ve tried. The image quality is crystal-clear, both day and night — the “Dark” invisible LED flash gives me bright, detailed nighttime shots without spooking deer. The motion detection is quick and accurate, and the wide detection range means I’m not missing anything that walks by. The Flex-S Dark takes eight AA batteries, but also has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery pack. Even better, the solar panel keeps the built-in battery charged, so it enables continuous use for months without needing any battery maintenance. As long as the camera has good cell signal, adequate sunlight, and is not taking hundreds of pictures per day, the solar panel will keep up with battery demand. Antenna is durable and is better than most trail cameras. The low-glow and no-glow settings are a great feature - works well for not spooking game animals at night, or for home surveillance. Spypoint's free photo plan, which includes 100 pictures per month, is a big selling point for me. Most cellular trail cameras do not have free plan options. Update: Buyer beware! Initial camera I received would not charge from the solar panel. Support and they sent me a replacement. Second camera is doing the same thing. Once the internal battery drains from the manual (corded) charging, the camera will ONLY work off AA batteries. I have manually recharged twice and still the same problem. Support says they won't replace again...I'm just out of luck! Unfortunately, I have already paid for a year of service so I guess I am out of an additional $120 in addition to the cost of the camera. Had high hopes and am VERY frustrated. Received the unit and charged it 24 hours per the instructions. Installed AA batteries and set it up in the field. It took pictures for 9 days and died. Brought it back home and charged it for over 27 hours and NOTHING. Seems the internal battery is not charging. Spent over 1 hour with online chat support for almost NO responses. The person on the other end was obviously handling several other issues. Also called phone number and waited over 30 minutes to finally get a person. At this point they are sending me a replacement and we will see what happens. If I had not purchased the $120 annual subscription, I would have just returned the camera and gone with another company. The media could not be loaded. I’m a huge Spypoint fan and the S Dark. I bought this as an additional camera to fill in a blind spot on my property, my first one recorded a clear, crisp video of a bear investigating the area (I uploaded the clip with this review). The video quality had smooth motion, good low-light detail, and audio that actually captures ambient sounds. Setup was painless and the battery life so far looks promising. What really sealed the deal for me is the Spypoint app: the map feature makes it ridiculously easy to track all my camera locations no more wandering the woods trying to remember where I left that one unit. I can see which camera captured what, right on the map. If you’re adding extra cameras to cover more ground, the S Dark is a solid pick. Reliable trigger, great footage, and the app/map functionality is a huge convenience. Highly recommend to fellow hunters, landowners, or wildlife fans love this thing. Read more
This is the third trail camera I’ve bought from this brand, and overall I’m pretty happy with it. It’s reliable, quiet, and does a great job of picking up motion—day or night. The night vision is seriously impressive, and the photos are crisp. You can’t even hear a click when it takes a photo, which is great for not spooking wildlife. All three of my cameras use the same app, which is super convenient. The app itself is very user-friendly, and for just $10/month, I get unlimited videos and photos from all my cameras. That’s a solid deal compared to some others on the market. It blends in well in the woods and comes with a sturdy strap that makes it easy to mount to trees. Setup is simple, and the camera gets a decent signal—even in more remote spots. I also love that it has built-in GPS so you don’t forget where you placed it. Now for the drawbacks: the solar panel is hit or miss. Sometimes it keeps the battery topped off, but other times it doesn't seem to charge enough, especially in shady spots or cloudy stretches. Also, you have to pre-charge the battery for 12 hours before you can even use it, which is a bit of a hassle right out of the box. You can’t get live feed, which would be a nice upgrade, but for the price and quality, it does what it promises. We’ve seen a ton of deer thanks to these cams, and they’ve been fun and reliable tools for managing the land. Read more
If you have used the FLEX-S series of cameras, you know what you're getting here in terms of features and functionality. Same video quality (1080p with audio) and same 40MP photo quality. Same easy setup through the Spypoint app and camera code. Same long battery life from the built-in solar panel - I have actually been replacing my older FLEX-S cameras with these after two years of year-round use. Definitely worth the money in terms of durability and features. Added bonus is the low-glow flash! Read more
