Needs 2 AAA batteries for remote.

Now that needing batteries is a bad thing, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the listing or in other reviews, so thought I'd point that out. Technically you can probably use it fine without the remote. But most of the functionality is in the remote so if you're expecting to use it on arrival or giving it as a gift, maybe consider ordering some batteries too. The egg itself does not use batteries but instead comes with a usb-c cable. It does not come with a wall plug so consider also getting a USB wall adapter if needed. That said, it is overall a pretty decent little projector. I got it mostly as mood lighting for our game room. Its kind of hard to see once lights are on for board games, but that’s definitely not its intended purpose anyway. When the lights are on I can tilt it down to add a fun texture to the table when playing certain eldritch themed games, as in the second photo. Otherwise its good backlighting above the tv when the room is dark or dimly lit. My only concern is the manual or box doesn't mention any sort of safety warning, but the projected star grid -might- be lasers? I'm not clear on how it creates the star effect and it seems much brighter than the nebula. I did end up turning the stars off either way since its a very obvious grid and a bit too busy if you have it up on a shelf and too close to the ceiling like I do. Regardless, I'd play it safe recommend not looking straight into the egg while its on just in case. Obvious warning seems obvious, but if you're getting this for a small child... maybe keep it out of reach. The included sounds aren't terrible, but I'm more likely to use it for the Bluetooth. And for that -- its fine. I've definitely heard way worse, but nothing to write home about. Overall it does what I wanted it to do and then some. I'm pretty happy with it. :) Read more

Dancing colorful lights

Its pretty. Great for a bedtime nightlight. Does not light up the whole ceiling but did have different colors and strobes and lit up the majority of a corner. Read more

Awesome alien egg!

This has a lot of features (some better than others) so this is going to be a rather long review. First, I should mention that I have a bunch of these "nebula" devices -- I've been accumulating them in various forms for years. I just love them. I really think this is one of the best. Who says they're just for kids? I'll go through the features in approximately the order I experimented with them in. First, it's small. (see picture) I love that! I've got several that are just too big to put on my desk, or on my bookcase headboard. This is a perfect, convenient size. Going through the features, there's the basic nebula. Once I squinted at the manual, it was easy to set and cycle through the color options. There are many options of various color combinations, and you can set the brightness (3 levels, low to really bright) and speed (stop, slow, fast) from the remote. The coverage area seems bigger than some of mine, and they looked really nice on the ceiling. The blue/green combo gives almost an underwater look, which was great. You can turn the nebula on and off separately from the laser stars. The stars are the expected green laser with a diffraction grating. Honestly, I turned them off. The problem with all the laser "stars" from these types of units (or the ones to put lights on the front of your house, etc.) is that they're too regular. Stars don't make up an even grid. Until someone works out a good way to get randomized stars instead of a grid that a city planner would be proud of, IMO they look better without them. The unit includes a lid. If you set it to red or green and put the lid on, you have an absolutely awesome alien egg. It would definitely make a good night light, but it just looks cool on your desk, too. Use it in "egg mode" along with its speaker capability and it would be a great desktop speaker. Then we have the collection of sounds that they're calling "white noise," although most of them are nothing of the kind. The's music, one that sounds like running water, a cat purring, something that might be wind or a waterfall, wind chimes, some rather squawky frogs, birds, something that sounds like a broken cicada (that's the best way I can describe it), piano music with gurgling water like someone was drowning a piano, piano with sort of a bass drone, a gurgling/thumping that I think is supposed to be a heartbeat, synthesized music, sounds of a thunderstorm, something with birds and, of all things, barking dogs (this is something that would wake me up, not put me to sleep!), a steady sound that might be wind, something that sounds like machinery, one I really like that I think is a railroad (before the days of welded rails), and, so help me, a mooing cow, occasionally interrupted by a very loud dog. It finally ends with crickets; crickets are good. All told, none of them are *great*, but most of them aren't bad (well ... the cow ...). Though, frankly, I'd use the Bluetooth speaker function to channel a sound app on my phone. Which brings us to the Bluetooth speaker capability. For what it probably has for a speaker, it's surprisingly good. The volume isn't what it could be, but for the intended use, it's adequate. You're not getting this to build your own disco; you're going to bed. Though the sound sensitive mode is fairly disco-y with the right music. And, finally, you have 1-hour and 2-hour timer options. Overall, this is the best of its kind that I've used. I really like the size -- it can be put many more places than my larger units. I love the "alien egg" look with its lid on, and it has a nice, bright nebula with the lid off. The sounds aren't great, but a few are pretty decent, and there are enough of them that everyone can find the few that work for them. The speaker is adequate; it's playing "7 Bridges Road" right how. This is an excellent unit, especially for the price. Don't worry about it being "for kids" -- it's good for anyone. Highly recommended. Read more

I like this thing alot but there’s a few things they could’ve done differently

I love this egg, the white noise options it comes with. The star/ Galaxie options which can be used separately or together, and just make a room pop / come alive at night. Wow . The egg it’s self is very colorful, which I wish there was a all white option or something cause I do feel like the colorful ness of it makes it more so look like it’s for a child’s room and can’t be put in some living rooms or something. So I do wish it had solid options. Also , maybe I’m using it wrong, but for now it seems to be you can’t just play the white noise in the day time without the stars/and or Galaxy’s lights having to be used with it, even when I’ve turned them of, it seems to eventually come back on. So maybe and hopefully im doing something wrong , which doesn’t seem like it but I’ve only used it for almost 2 weeks now so possibly I’m working it wrong?! But it’ll be nice to be able to use the white noise option by its self. I haven’t used the Bluetooth speaker option yet, but it’s nice to know that that is an option. And again I love this thing when it’s on at night, I have higher ceilings than most and I sit this on the floor and it still projects very vividly. I also wish it was wire less. But it does need to remain plugged. You can sit this in so many variety of places but the base does need to remain plugged in. Also the remote needs battery’s. :/ that’s something I wish was just chargeable along with the eggs it’s self. Which btw it has a base that’s removable.. I’m not sure why it’s removable from the base as it’s not a chargeable base. Some of the sound options aren’t the best to me but I do really enjoy most of them. Overall, this is a pretty good thing. Great for larger or smaller rooms. Read more
