I ordered this Steel Mill & Co Travel Jewelry Organizer for travel this summer, but the design is so cute, I think I’m going to use it to store some of my lightweight, inexpensive jewelry pieces at home, too. I love Steel Mill & Co’s literary themed designs. I write fairy tale fantasy series under different pen names, and when I saw this Once Upon a Time themed book styled jewelry case, I snapped it up. We’re traveling a ton this summer; we spend long weekends and August in the CT countryside, and our teenager is going to music camp 800 miles away from our NYC home, so we have two 1600 mile road trips. This small case is the perfect size to toss in my purse or weekender, and it has plenty of room to store a range of jewelry, everything from bracelets to necklaces to earrings. The case I received is made from a pale green woven fabric. It measures about 5 1/2” tall x 4” wide and the zippered case is about 2” deep when closed. Unzipped, it opens to reveal two separate compartments, it’s about 8” wide when opened flat. The inside is a cream colored faux leather with a small grained pattern. The left side of the book (or front cover) section has a flat lid with holes for twenty earrings. There’s a thumb sized half moon opening, if you pull here, you reveal a hidden compartment for necklaces or chain bracelets. This section has two small hooks to hold chains, and a small elasticized pocket measuring about 3 3/4” wide x 2” tall to stow charms or excess length of necklace chains. The right side of the case has three small sections. One measures about 3 1/4” x 2”, and has five small padded foam rolls that hold rings. Above the ring section is another small section that’s also about 3 1/4” x 2”; this can be used to store small pieces of jewelry. I’m using this for larger earrings; the flat storage is better for small stud style earrings. Under these sections is a slightly larger space, about 3 3/4” x 2” that I’ve been using to store my charm bracelets. (I like to make a charm bracelet for each book I write, with charms that represent the characters and plot points.) I can get two or three charm bracelets in this space if I coil them up. I was pleased with how much I could fit in this small case. The gold toned zipper is sturdy and works smoothly; when it’s closed, I don’t worry about losing pieces from the case. My favorite thing about this is the fairy tale theming; the “book” is pale green, and it has an ornate scrolled design in gold and dark green on the “covers” and “spine”, including the Once Upon a Time title. This small case would be adorable for a young girl or tween, but it’s great for grown up girls who still love fairy tales, too. At the current price ($28.95) this is a bit pricier than the average travel jewelry case, but the boutique feel design and clever styling adds to the value of this well made case. I’ve just discovered Steel Mill & Co. designs in the last year or so, it so far, the products I’ve ordered from them have a lot of thought put into their literary themed designs. For example, I love the clever use of space in this small case; using the flat divider between halves of the case to store earrings adds to the storage capacity. There’s room for large and small earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings all in one small case that’s about 5 1/2” x 4”… and it looks like a fairy tale book, too. Build quality: I'm very happily surprised with the quality of this jewelry storage box! I'm so used to mass produced things being low quality but this little zipped box is really nice! The exterior is a woven fabric (not vinyl) that feels like a cloth bound book cover. The details on the front, back, and spine are all printed onto the fabric and the detail comes out very well. It looks really nice! The interior is a soft faux velvet. There is a section inside the front "cover" that has two hooks for hanging necklaces and bracelets with a little elastic pouch to keep the bottoms in. The hooks are covered in that faux velvet but are metal underneath so they're bendable and very robust. The interior page with the earring holes feels like it has a rigid board in between the fabric, kind of like cardboard, to give it structure. The final area inside the back cover has two compartments for odds and ends and some ring storage rolls. The rolls are not removable and have a foam interior. The stitching is all neat and tidy, there are no loose ends. The zipper slides smoothly, too. The zipper is a metallic coated plastic, and the back of the zipper pull is a little bubbly, but it's still fine. I expect with heavy use the metallic stuff will chip and flake off, exposing the plastic. Jewelry storage: I wish this jewelry box had one more velvet sheet to protect the rest of the jewelry from the earring posts when they're stored, but unfortunately that is not the case. I will probably use a glasses cleaning cloth to protect the jewelry when in use. Size: This little organizer is perfect for travel. It has room for plenty of vacation jewelry and the layout is convenient and easy to use. I'm planning on using this on my next vacation and I think it will look adorable sitting on the bathroom counter. I should be able to store everything I need for my trip in it with room to spare. I'm planning on bringing a couple of necklaces and bracelets, some earrings and rings. It's a ten day trip but everything should fit just fine. I really like this little jewelry organizer. It's super cute, very well made, and a great size for casual jewelry storage and travel. It would make an excellent gift for someone or for yourself as a little pick me up! This is a great portable jewelry case! I love the cute design on the front. It has multiple compartments on the inside. Some for rings, earrings, and other jewelry. I love the size of it. It fits nicely in a suitcase, or backpack. It’s good for on the go traveling or if you need a small case at home. I have been delighted with all of the adorable products I have tried from this brand. This is no exception; however I did deduct one star because it may not be the perfect travel jewelry box. It is pretty, and it is as pictured. It is generously sized, which could be a positive or a negative, depending on how much you need to store and how much space you have for this in your bag. I would venture to suggest that it will often be a larger size than you actually need for a trip. However, it might be a good size for a dorm or other "longer but temporary" spaces. The color is beautiful, but it is a pale color and a very light weight cotton exterior. This may easily stain or tear if used frequently or roughly. I think it's more of a small jewelry box than a travel case. It would still make an adorable gift. Read more

This is a wonderful jewelry organizer that works well when traveling. I like how portable it is and that way I can put my ear rings and rings in it instead of leaving them loose on the night table. The design is very cute and I love the colors. Read more
