Strider 12 Pro Bike No Pedal Balance Bicycle for Kids 1 to 4 Years - Includes Safety Pad

We purchased this in June 2015 when our daughter was just shy of 18 months old. It took her a few months to be interested and another few months before she really got the concept. She's actively used it for over two years (graduating up to the XL seat post once she got too tall for the regular one). We purchased her a pedal bike quite some time ago, but she kept wanting to use this one until she finally got too tall for it (she's off-the-charts for height, so other kids might actually get to use it through to age 5 or beyond). She transitioned to a pedal bike in less than an hour because she had already mastered balance and steering with her Strider, so all she needed to learn was using the pedals. Based on our experience, we would recommend a balance bike for all toddlers and this one in particular for a few reasons. 1) It's so lightweight that it's very easy for a parent/caregiver to carry when the kid changes their mind about wanting to ride their bike and they will change their mind. 2) Long lifespan. We got a solid 2 1/2 years out of this bike since it had the XL seat post to allow taller kids to ride. If my daughter weren't so tall, I know we would have gotten another year or more out of it. 3) Quality workmanship. Like all kids, our daughter plays hard and that extends to how the bike is handled. It's gotten more than its share of scrapes, bumps, drops, etc. and while it has some surface scratches, it's still a completely solid and serviceable bike that we will feel completely comfortable selling to a friend or neighbor for their kiddo to enjoy. You might pay a little more out-of-pocket for this balance bike than for other brands or models, but if your kid loves it like mine did, it will be money very well spent and, when you're ready for a pedal bike, you won't be wasting any money on training wheels. I bought this bike for my 2 1/2yr old Grandson for Christmas. He loves it! Of course there's a learning curve in the beginning, which is expected and purpose of a "balance". It's much better option than training wheels. He now does great on the bike and prefers it over his scooter lately. I bought the Pro version of the 12" sport bike because of how light it is, due to the aluminum construction. Even though lighter, it's as sturdy as the heavier Stainless Steel version. The sliver color with white lettering is really nice and classy. I did a lot of research on 'Balance" bikes and Strider was always listed at the top of the recommendations. It did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to get a GREAT Black Friday discount price ! As soon as he gets old and tall enough, I will get him the 14" sport bike version, hopefully next Black Friday! My son started on this bike at 15 months (11" inseam). We had to slam the seat for him to be able to swing a leg over. Now he's 21 months and riding like a pro. He puts his feet up on the foot rests and loves going to the skate park by our house to roll down ramps. This bike is awesome for toddlers learning to ride. It's super light weight so he doesn't have to maneuver a big chunky bike around. That's also great for me when I have to carry him and the bike. Also the foam tires are really durable and make for low maintenance (no pumps, don't worry about running over thorns, etc.). Skip the tricycle and the training wheels and get a balance bike! -- Don't forget a helmet. My only two complaints: * When the seat is slammed, a section of the seat post sticks out the bottom and hits the kids legs while they walk the bike (when first learning). It kept getting caught on my son's leg and causing him to trip. We ended up just sawing it off. It makes the seat post shorter but this bike comes with a larger saddle and longer seat post that we can use when he gets taller. * The headset isn't a real headset. That results in more play when he really gets going. He'll likely be graduating into his cousin's Specialized Hot Walk as soon as he gets a littler taller because it's built more like a real bike with a stiffer set up. Read more

This little lightweight bike has made my son so happy. We got it for him when he was 2 years old when we realized he couldn't yet pump the pedals on his heavy tricycle. Because of this bike's light weight he was able to bring it out of his room and ride it inside our home all on his own. This really boosted his riding ability and soon we had him outside all the time, he could cruise for hours if we let him. After he mastered balancing, we noticed that he was riding the tricycle with no problem, his legs were stronger and he understood the concept of the pedals finally. This bike has also taken a serious beating, like being tossed and dropped and it's even fallen down cement stairs. It wasn't necessarily affordable for us at almost $200 but I couldn't be happier with it so it was worth the investment, especially because of its light weight. We actually purchased a different (more expensive) brand of balance bike for my 3 year old prior to getting this strider. It was super heavy and he didn’t like it. This one is SO LIGHT and he absolutely loves it. I feel like the fact it was easy to handle and use was a game changer for him. He has picked it up so quickly and is doing great.
