Great knife for a low price!

Customerโ€”April 21, 2025

The fit and finish on this knife was excellent. The wood handles are beautiful and securely fastened by the brass pins. The handle is smooth - no gaps or proud spots. The knife came quite sharp. With just a few minutes honing and stropping, the knife became stupid sharp. The knife is a small fixed blade. I plan on putting the knife on a neck strap. The sheath is good and holds the knife securely. I did remove the tassels and beads. The knife is an incredible value for money. Read more

Good, bad, and ugly

Dan S.โ€”October 12, 2024

Let's start with the good. 1) It's a full tang knife with brass pins and decent wood scales. 2) It comes with a thin but usable leather sheath. 3) It's 10 bucks. Now the bad. 1) It came so dull, I don't think I could have cut soft butter. It took 5 different levels of sharpening stone and a leather strop to get a serviceable edge. Time will tell if it holds that edge. 2) The belt loop on the sheath is worthless. In fairness, it was sewed and glued on. As you can tell, I cut off the belt loop leaving the triangular holes where it was sewed on. It's gonna be a neck knife, so I can live with these tiny holes. 3) The butt of the knife where it forms the angle was sharp and uncomfortable. I took it to the belt sander gently to round over the edge and corners. And lastly, for the ugly. 1) It's ugly. A rounded butt and smoother sweep from the heel into the tang would greatly improve the look of this knife. 2) The sheath in its stock form is not attractive. I cut off the weird strings with cheap beads and replaced with round leather lacing. A good application of neatsfoot oil darkened the sheath and softened the leather. 3) It's still ugly. So, would I buy this again? Absolutely! In fact, I'm going to purchase a few other szco brand knives just to mess around with. This knife isn't going to win any prizes, but it costs less than a pizza, and it's worth every penny. Read more

A good period-style knife for cutting ornance patches for muzzle loading rifles

Paul Troianiโ€”March 17, 2017

The knife was as pictured. It needed a touch up sharpening, but it was adequate for cutting patches. The leather sheath is real leather and has a strip sewn in down the edge length as it should to prevent cutting the lacing. The wooden beads are not to my liking, and I have replaced them with genuine trading beads from the 19th century. Sheath is secure and covers most of the handle as it should in a 19th century style knife. Overall, this is a very nice patch knife for the price. It is designed to be small to cut patches around a lead ball going into a muzzle loading rifle. It is not designed for heavy camp use, but rather for the specific task of cutting ordnance patches from cotton cloth. This knife does have a belt loop. I prefer to keep it secured to the strap of my possibles bag in the pouch holding my patches. The blade needs work to get it razor sharp, but it will retain the edge because it is stainless steel. Would I buy this again? Yeah.... and I would give it as a gift, too. Although it is made in Pakistan, it has an old world charm that fits well with my kit. Read more

Nice little knife

J.T. Cape Cod, MA.โ€”September 20, 2013

This is a nice little novelty knife, it's small, and comes with a sheath, with decorative, and useless beads which I cut off immediately. I can see it used around camp, maybe with some food prep, but that's about all it would be good for. Might be a nice "cute" knife for the wife or girlfriend to wear, for camp or self defense.....it has a very extreme point to the blade. Was not really all that sharp out of the box, so I had to spend some serious time with my Japanese whetstones to put a scary sharp edge on it. Once sharpened it holds the edge reasonably well. All in all, it's a nice addition to my knife collection, but for me, that's about it. If you're looking for a very small knife to do small, light EDC tasks, or if you have a revolutionary war era musket, that you need to cut patches for, this knife is for you, otherwise, you might want to spend your $$$ on another knife. (BTW, it is well made, and made from quality materials, real nice wood handles, and a relatively thick blade, a little under, 3 mm, SS.) Read more
