It does take some time to assemble, due to the sturdiness and weight, as well as the brackets for the extension for the desk. You will need a drill to help with starting some of your holes. I am a single mom, and I read some reviews before purchasing, so I was prepared for drilling and to take my time with this project. It was definitely worth it the purchase and the time it took to assemble. I am really impressed with the quality of this beautiful coffee table/desktop. I just love the all the extra visible and hidden storage. I love to use it as desk for my laptop, and sometimes the kids and I use it as a table to eat off of when we want a dinner and movie night. When I need to cleanup for company, just tuck the extra things under the desk lid and close it up. It does take two hands to open the desk up and close it. I love that there is a lip for when you are closing the desk that you do not pinch your fingers on. I would recommend others to purchase and make it a new furniture addition. Read more

Pros: super sturdy, looks really nice when it’s put together, lots of storage, the lift top functionality is incredibly helpful, essentially giving us a second table in our tiny apartment Cons: the instructions are very difficult to understand. I’m pretty good at assembling furniture and it took me and my husband together over 4 hours. We used a combination of the instructions and the YouTube video but that probably made it more confusing. Just look at YouTube. For that video, search for Costway HW55643 assembly. That’s the actual name of the product on the box. One thing that is not mentioned is that you need a drill to assemble. Some of the holes for the wood screws were drilled, but not all. Even so, I don’t see how it would have been possible to put any of the cam pins or screws in without a drill. We have an inexpensive drill that worked fine. Finally, one piece was a bit damaged when we took it out (see photo). It would be too much trouble for what it’s worth to get it replaced so we will find another way to cover it up. Overall, I think it was worth the trouble on one afternoon to have this awesome coffee table, especially for the price. Just make sure you set aside some time for assembly. Read more

We have had this table for just over 3 years years now and it’s still as good as new! It’s very sturdy and utilitarian but I haven’t tired of its aesthetically simple design. Our area is darkish wood and white trim. The tabletop wasn’t a perfect match, which bothered me at first but I don’t even think about it now, especially since we have been so happy with it. The mechanism makes it easy to smoothly lift and lower the top. We can move it up and down even with drinks on it and no spills! The whole piece is very easy to clean. There’s a generous amount of storage space in both the compartment and the cubbies. Beware though, the compartment can (and has for us) become an additional junk drawer because it’s so easy to chuck a bunch of stuff into it. Ha! We use it daily as either a work station or TV dinners and the height is perfect for both me (5’0) and hubby (5’6). The cubby area is solid enough to use as a little footrest for my little legs. If you are wanting a sturdy, decently priced multi-use coffee table, your search is over. Read more

I love this table. It’s very solid and functional. Consistent with the other reviews it took me about 1 1/2-2hours to put together, but I had a fairly easy time doing it. As long as you follow along with the pictures there’s no problem. I am a more visual learner though, so maybe that’s why I didn’t have much of an issue. A power drill would be helpful and would speed up the process, but I was able to get by without one with a couple blisters on my hand as a result. DEFINITELY do what other people advised and install the table top hard ware to the table top first. I don’t even know how you would install the screws upside down. I was able to put this together by myself. Doable, but if you have extra help just go for it. Since I didn’t have a power drill nor a second person I found it was easier to screw in the screws that attach the hard ware to the table base first then unscrew them, before attaching the hardware because there isn’t already predrilled holes, just areas marking where the screw go. Since I attached the table top sitting on the ground, hunched over, with it resting on my back while I craned my neck to see, I didn’t have much leverage to screw them in otherwise. I don’t know if that makes sense. Maybe you’ll realize what I mean when you get to that last step. MY ONLY COMPLAINT, is the stickers that label the pieces do not remove easily and are the kind that just tear apart and leave behind residue no matter how gently and carefully I try to remove them. I left most of them behind to attack later with some goo gone. Other wise awesome table! I am a simpleton and think it’s just the coolest thing that the table top lifts up.
