Bought these looking specifically for a WiFi camera with RTSP support for Frigate. These are a good price, have a good picture and are easy to setup for RTSP. They have the Tapo app on phones and tablets but they also work with tinycam and PC through RTSP even if you don't do Frigate. They are wired, cable is maybe 8 or 10ft and it is weatherized. Amazing quality and great app with zero subscription. I avoided buying cams because of the almost inevitable ongoing subscriptions to get the most basic of functions from most cam brands. Finally did some research and found tapo devices and I am impressed. Not much I can say that others have not. The camera works well and is an excellent value. You get a bunch of different detections (motion, person, pet, line crossing) and it’s compatible with the H500 which gives it facial recognition and tracking and vehicle detection. You also get sound triggers but I don’t ever use it so I can’t say whether it works well or not. Especially great is that it does allow 30fps recording which looks very nice. If your network supports it it looks crystal clear and really pretty, better in shorter range than 4k cameras running at less fps. Many other brands use 15-25 fps to save on space and network bandwidth. They feel light and cheap but once you tighten the base, seem pretty solid. It’s indoor and outdoor so you use it anywhere and spotlights mean color night vision without the expensive sensor and a light only alarm if you need it. I don’t use them outside or in the elements and just got them recently anyway, so I don’t know how that plastic will hold up being weathered over time. The main issue I had with the camera is that my primary use case with them is to replace “dumb”motion detectors and human presence sensors. I have 3 rambunctious cats and wanted unmistakable people detectors. However the “AI” person detection algorithm Tapo uses is horrendous and it will often mistake my cats as well as infrared shadows created by my other cameras which are PTZ and “patrol” during the wee hours of the morning, as people even using the lowest sensitivity and no matter how detail I define the activity window(s) while it is using its own infrared. It’s like all sense goes out the door when IR is used. I know this is true for most cameras though so it’s not really a Tapo only fault. In order to workaround this I ended up having to use the full color night vision which turns the spotlight on when it’s dark, ironic since I’m trying to save on energy by having my kitchen lights turn on only in the presence of people being in the kitchen, oh well. Hopefully the tiny spotlights don’t burn the camera or themselves out quickly. I am very much hoping that the person detection will improve but I don’t know that it will since they’ve had quite some time to get it right. I still highly recommend these cameras. I haven’t found the perfect camera that never makes mistakes, especially while using IR, so I can’t fault this one but too much. I believe newer cameras have radar detection now but those are likely 2-3x what this costs and for that price I might as well have just gotten a cream of the crop human presence sensor. The images/clips are great and you can’t beat the price. They also integrate perfectly with Alexa for viewing and for triggering routines and announcements. I’ve docked a single star, I’d have done only 1/2 if I could for the really bad false detections while depending on the infrared sensor and only because I’ve seen other brands do better at similar price points. Best thing I could’ve ever spent my money on !!! I’m a 23 year old mother with 2 under 2 and I needed something affordable to monitor my newborn and toddler and boy was this just what I needed . I’m not really computer savvy so I didn’t know which brand would be best and then I read how some require a SIM card etc. but I found this one . It takes a sim but it’s not required. I absolutely love this camera and I mean it I will be ordering two more for my front room and play room . Please buy it , your definitely getting your moneys worth I have to position them better because this isn’t the final setup but the picture quality is amazing. Read more

Great product overall — FIVE THINGS I LIKE 1) good picture quality (day and night visibility, picture inversion capability for upside-down installation); 2) loud alarm; 3) good audio; 4) cool detection features (motion detection and person detection); 5) WiFi signal strength seems fine. You have to sort of experiment with the app technology for a bit to find the surveillance settings you prefer, but no big deal if you are patient. THREE COMPLAINTS: 1) The mic seems low when camera is installed outside, even on full volume. So if the camera’s not pretty close to visitors that you try to talk to through the device, they may not be able to hear you when you use it. 2) Finding the best spot for installation was a bit of a task, but to be expected. Just be ready to use a power drill or hammer and nails. 3) If I had to choose a complaint, it would be cord management. I had to purchase a 25-ft USB-A to USB-c cord for each camera (despite the incorrect product details that describe a DC power input 😒) and those cords didn’t have the same weather proofing as the 6-ft cords that come with the camera. But I just duct-taped the USB-c side of the cord to the camera thoroughly so that water won’t seep into the power input. It may also be productive to just use the 6-ft cords that come with the device and purchase a USB-A or USB-c extension cable… Five stars nonetheless! I will buy more of these cameras when I feel the need for more indoor or outdoor. Read more

Unfortunately this did not work. The camera would not pair with the app on my phone -- kept saying "The device is not new." It was brand new. I spent a couple hours online researching, then adjusting, still couldn't get it to work. I am an IT professional, so not unfamiliar with this world. Of course it's possible I am missing something so I contacted the company email that they said to use if this happened. Eight days later, no response. Very poor experience. Read more
