I've been using it for a few days so far and it works well and is very quiet. Also the guy who said it wouldn't fit a 17" laptop was wrong, it fits mine quite comfortably. It's lightweight and comfortable to use on my lap, and I've been surprised at how well it distributes the weight of my bulky laptop so it doesn't make my legs hurt, unlike some regular lap desks. I also like the fact that it doesn't have bright lights. But the best part and the reason I got it is because I can set my laptop down on my bed or another soft surface and not worry about it overheating! It keeps my laptop room temperature to the touch and the laptop's internal fans haven't kicked on once. Can't really comment on durability yet, except that I've leaned on it accidentally a couple times and it made a plastic crack sound but nothing seemed to be broken afterward, so it must've just been the plastic shifting. This is an update to original review: I've had the AWE55US item for 2 years now and I use it regularly (about 6 hours a day) under my Alienware 15 R3. It has been quiet and sufficient to keep my lap cool while doing video editing, gaming, and normal day-to-day duties. There is a simple storage location on each end so the cable is not dangling when not in use. The foam-like material makes using this item on your lap comfortable and seems to allow your legs to breathe. I still have several minor problems with this unit: 1- the plastic edging on the left and right (teardrop shaped) ends, which caps the ends and is about 1/4 inch wide and can be rather sharp to the touch. The plastic trim goes all the way around the ends to keep the foam-like covering from fraying but when I place my hands under the mat to place it on the table it has a knife like edge to it. I haven't cut my hands yet but to be safe I am placed a band of electrical tape all the way around the edge to add a bit of comfort and eliminate the sharp edges. 2- The USB connector does not have a pass though so it will take one of your USB connections away. With the reduction in standard USB ports on most higher end laptops makes the loss of one USB connection potentially problematic. Also, the connector is pretty tall at a little over 1 inch (counting the rigid boot on the back of the connector. I suggest they provide a USB-C connector option and make the USB connector boot turned at a right angle to reduce how far out from the laptop it extends. In addition, it would be very helpful if the mat had a hole in the middle of the back to pass the cable out and up to the back of the laptop. The cable is just long enough to go out the left or right side to reach the middle of my laptop but the cable is rather taunt and can get caught easily if you are not careful. Passing the cable through the middle of the back would protect it better. I plan on using a drill to make this hole once the warranty runs out. Also the USB connector wire is merely plastic wrapped (perhaps to keep it more pliable) and mine is cracked at the USB end from wear and possibly the side exhaust heat. The addition of a small elastic string to the inside of the unit to help pull the excess cable inside would be lovely. 3-There is no fan speed control. The fans are not particularly loud but with a better set of fans and a speed adjustment this unit will move more air and would keep the user's lap cooler. Overall I am very pleased with this item and, except for the minor design flaws described above, would normally give it a full 5 stars. The Targus 17-inch Dual Fan Lap Chill Mat is the second chill mat I have purchased for my laptop. The first chill pad was a different brand. In my opinion, the Targus chill mat is a superior product to my first chill pad. The operation of the fans is quiet, and they run consistently without issue. I have not had an issue with my laptop feeling hot since I stated using the chill pad. The pad on the bottom of the chill mat provides a soft and comfortable barrier for the lap while working with laptop on lap. At first I had difficulty locating the USB cord that connects to the laptop and thought it had not been included in the package. On further exploration, the USB cord was located tucked securely between the plastic top of the mat and the soft neoprene bottom. The chill pad is not bulky or difficult to manipulate. It has bumpers to keep the computer in place which, based on my experience, could be improved on. I may add my own silicon pads. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and at this point I would not hesitate to buy one again. Read more

Targus is always a clear winner. The price is always right and the product always exceeds expectations. I was looking at a similar cooling pad by another brand, same price, but Targus is the one with the quality materials and craftsmanship. The plastic parts are nice durable plastic and the mat part is nice and grippy. Very happy with this mat. It feels so nice on my lap. I forget I'm using it. I can't hear it, at all. I have to put my ear completely to the mat to make sure it's on. The cable is long enough to use on either side, and both sides feature a clip for the port. My laptop doesn't budge and it stays much cooler. 100000% will always buy Targus products. Read more
