I have a thick full rubber mat that I was using before this. It was beginning to show some wear and I wanted to get a duplicate before it wears out, but the same manufacturer and model are no longer offered. That previous mat is heavy, which I don't mind because it is thick enough and pliable enough to give my knees and joints some cushion without giving so much as to make balance poses difficult. This mat also provides cushion without being spongy or squishy, so once again I have found a mat that make my yoga practice better. It seems that it is very durable and well made. The mat rolls up easily. The backside is rubber and the top side is some type of plastic vinyl synthetic, which seems that it will be easier for me to clean than my previous mat that was rubber on both sides. I think that there is some odor from it, but not too offensive and possibly will decrease over time. The rubber on the bottom keeps the mat from slipping on the floor, and somehow the smooth easy to clean top also manages to provide grip when needed. This mat seemed expensive to me, and I was afraid to buy without a personal recommendation, but I am glad that I took a risk and bought it. Read more
I’ve always struggled with sweaty hand and feet during yoga. Especially hot yoga to the point it was almost impossible for me to enjoy the class. I tried the towel you place over a mat but those just end sliding off anyway. This mat amazing. You’re not going anywhere and I can finally enjoy my practice. I know it’s a bit pricey but 100% worth it. Also just FYI it’s a lot heavier than a regular mat. Assuming it’s the natural rubber that makes it heavy so don’t recommend if you’re traveling a lot. I have been practicing yoga for about 10 years now, to include Ashtanga and hot-yoga at least 4-5 times per week. This is by far the best mat I've ever had. I'm 6'1...so when I needed to get a new mat recently, I decided to get one that was both extra-long and extra-wide from the previous mats I've been using, but it was also important that I get a mat that had a good grip, as I sweat quite easily. This mat fits all of these criteria, the natural rubber meant that it didn't smell too much when I got it, and the grip is fantastic. I love the extra length and width, its very firm, but not too thick, plus it is surprisingly not that heavy (I have a shorter, thicker mat that is much heavier than this one), and it rolls up quite easily. I'm so crazy about it that I think my fellow yogis from my classes are getting tired of hearing me brag about it:) Read more
First, I was gratified to see that the color of this mat is more muted than I was anticipating. It's a pale, earthy turquoise. Lovely. The mat is *enormous,* which was my goal. Upon trying it, however, I realized that this size is just excessive for my 5'8" 138 pound frame. My partner, a 6'2", 160 pound man, was really stoked about it though. The material is non-slip without being "sticky," which is a plus in my book. I did notice that there was a slight ... bubble effect?... when I used it. Not sure how to describe it, but I included a picture (the one with my foot). This was my first time trying a mat made of this material so I'm not sure if that's standard or not, or if it's due to using it on a carpet instead of a hard floor. Inaccuracies in the product description: - Product description says 30 inches wide. It's 29 inches wide. - Product description says 0.2 inches thick, which is 5.08mm; packaging says 5mm. It's 4mm thick. Picture included. People looking for a very cushiony mat will want to look elsewhere. Bottom line: I was impressed with this mat even though it's not quite right for me. Pretty color, non-slip surface, enormous. If you're looking for an 80" x 29," 4mm thick mat, this is the mat for you. By the way, no one pays me or incentivizes me in any way to write these reviews; I just like to be helpful (and procrastinate on the things I should be doing). Read more
Thickness, size, surfaces, and durability are top notch. I'm a 6 ft 5 inch athletic man. This is by far the most well thought out functional mat I've ever used. I use it for Pilates, Yoga, Oula and other fusion classes. It's large enough for normal use. And it's not too wide for me to straddle when feet leave the mat. It doesn't slip at all under dance moves and cushion is goldilocks just right. It is a bit heavy, but this is a plus for my use, not a drawback. Read more
I've been using Jade yoga mat (famous for its non-slipperiness) for years, until it was worn out and made rubbery scraps all over the mat. I couldn't go back to the cheap yoga ones, and was searching for an alternative. The Manduka mat seemed to be the only option (yet too expensive), before I discovered Tatago. - This yoga mat approximates the non-slipperiness of the Jade yoga mat. It adheres to the wooden floor due to its heavy rubber material. (Once placed, it won't move easily!) It provides enough stability when I'm doing the down dog pose (on cheap mats, my hand easily slips down). - the XL size is just perfect for doing extra stuffs than yoga, such as self-massaging, as I have to roll back and forth. As a 5.5 feet woman, I was okay with the standard mat size for doing yoga, but the extra space gives me more possibilities of movement even when I do yoga. (This size should be the standard for the taller people!) - color and texture: the black color is actually close to dark gray (the shade changes depending on the surrounding light). It has a glossy, smooth texture. I was not a fan of black, but it looks beautiful and professional! I wonder what the other colors actually look like (hard to know from the product description). Also I hope there are more color options in the future (I'd love to see violet or beige!). Read more
This is exactly what I wanted. It’s extra large and doesn’t slip on my hardwood floors. It is made with quality materials. It doesn’t have a lot of cushion but that’s not what I was looking for. I love it! Read more
