A brilliant return to the magic of the 1960’s done at warp speed…

Daniel B. LyleOctober 18, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Ok. I purchased this 4K disc with no preconceptions except having grown up in the 1960’s with the original comic books (many of which I still have) and having followed all the subsequent TV series and movies. I figured a reboot would be fairly typical with staid plot progression, a fun viewing but unremarkable. I was delighted to be totally wrong. This is a stunning production worth watching many times over! The characters all have new depth from scintillating actors. Reed stretches only when needed and organic to the situation. Sue is more powerful than ever before. The torch isn’t just a headstrong kid but contributes key scientific achievements. And Ben is the most believable orange cobblestone ever put on film (incredible special effects maturation). It’s a true tour de force setting them back into a credible alternate reality derived from the 1960’s! Plus, Galactus is the most awesome and shocking ever. The Silver Surfer as a woman is both tragic and heroic. The city’s destruction is stunning. The futuristic space scenes are amazing. And the “tape reel” robot is the cutest sidekick ever. This is an engrossing movie that this old fan totally recognizes from the magic of blurry pictures printed on cheap paper from the 1960’s. Viewed projected in 4K onto a large wall screen with full surround sound turned up, it’s an immersive experience. Truly, the heart and soul of the great comic book artists from the golden age of comics is here to be enjoyed, both by old and new fans. To all those who made and provided this marvelous trip melding the past and future I have only one word: BRAVO! Read more

Marvel's First Family Join the MCU!

RDDOctober 17, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Matt Shakman’s 2025 film “Fantastic Four: First Steps” adapts a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, & Ian Springer, bringing Marvel’s First Family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer. It focuses on the FF four years after they received their cosmic powers on a test flight in a retro-futuristic 1960s parallel Earth. They’ve battled many of their 1960s enemies from the comics, including the Mole Man (Paul Water Hauser), and inspired the people of Earth to be better. Amid this Camelot, a new threat arises in the form of Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald, the Silver Surfer. The FF must work to thwart Galactus from devouring the Earth and protect both their family and the Earth itself. Shakman’s retro-futuristic parallel Earth brilliantly evokes the time and place of Marvel’s origins while also subtly fueling the multiverse saga. Every element of the background from buildings to appliances to clothing feels of its era and evokes the same historic tone as “Captain America: The First Avenger.” While Tim Story and Josh Trank each turned their hand to adapting the Fantastic Four, this film is the first that fully embraces the comic book tone of the source material while also portraying the characters as a real family. The 2005 film portrayed banter among the cast, but it often felt more like snide remarks than real relationships. “First Steps” shows the First Family as a real family. The film features several references to Marvel’s history, particularly to Jack Kirby, with a version of Timely Comics appearing when the Silver Surfer first visits the Earth. The main cast of the unreleased 1994 “The Fantastic Four” film also appear in cameos that link this to the legacy of Marvel Comics on film. “First Steps” does an admirable job brining the FF to the MCU in a way that honors their legacy while also feeling fresh. The only detractor for this film is the “Twilight”-style CGI baby, but the story, characters, and settings are otherwise all brilliant for fans of Marvel and the Silver Age of comics. This 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook is a great way for fans to add the film to their home media collection. Bonus features include a featurette from Shakman and the cast about crafting the First Family; a look at the film’s retro-futuristic aesthetic; a discussion of the process of transitioning the characters from the page to the screen an audio commentary; a gag reel; and deleted scenes. A MCU movie that actually feels like an MCU movie.

ShinyneweyesOctober 24, 2025✓ Verified purchase

A fun movie that feels like a classic comic book come to life. There was obviously a lot of effort put into it and the cast seems to be having fun. I know there’s quite a few people that find it dull and not as good as what was expected. Honestly, I can see their point. There could have been a couple more action set pieces and it could have been 20-30 minutes longer. It would have allowed the writers to add a bit more depth to the characters and build the stakes a bit more. No worries tho, the movies fine as is. The 4k Blu-ray is pretty basic with no slipcover. Which is kind of a drag but for 26.00 I can’t really complain. Definitely worth a purchase, especially if you have a tv and player that supports Dolby vision. Read more

BEST MARVEL MOVIE SINCE AVENGERS ENDGAME

Zachary StarkJanuary 13, 2026✓ Verified purchase

I’ve seen fantastic four a few times the 05 one and the sequel but this one was absolutely amazing first of all it had great storytelling the kind I would expect from marvel movies and this one did not disappoint they made human torch less cocky and they made Thing more mature and less aggressive but the design for galactus was so much better then the 07 version. I can’t wait for Avengers Doomsday to come out This was the best marvel movie ever right up there with the avengers films and Spiderman No way Home Read more
