The title of my review pretty much sums it up. We love, love, love this book. It's a story about a little boy, Henry, and his teddy bear, who play together and learn to use the potty. Despite the fact that the story is fairly long, our son actually pays attention throughout the whole story (not a typical thing--he usually gets through a few pages of any book!). He also brings the book to us quite frequently to have us read it to him. Most importantly, this book really seems to have made things "click" for him. We went shopping for "big boy" underwear shortly after reading this book to him for the first time, and he seemed to make the connection. He also discusses Henry's diaper and his accidents while we're reading the book. He engages with the story in a way unlike any other story. I agree with the reviewer who commented on the unforgivable grammar. There is one portion of the book where it says "Teddy and me . . ."! I honestly think I'm going to take a sharpie to the book and fix it, because changing it to "I" doesn't mess up the rhyme or the rhythm. It's very odd. However, it doesn't affect my star rating and I suppose when my son is older, it would be a good way to teach him about grammar. (On the other hand, I hope that we won't be reading this book at the same time that he's learning about grammar, because that would probably mean that we'd be potty training at age 5!) Read more

Adorable! And very wise! I kept reading online how to 'potty train' my boy, but the book outlines the potty training program! I loved that a bunch of different scenarios of how a toddler gets used to the potty and the process are shown and the parents are shown as very patient and encouraging and in the end, it 'clicks' for Henry. So basically, the book says, there is no magic trick to potty training. just keep trying and wait and it will happen! Takes the pressure off....because online there are all these 'rush methods' and maybe some parents can handle them, but not all. Thank you author and illustrator! Last year, after our boy/girl twins started showing interest in the potty, we bought potties for them. I also discovered that reading books about going on the potty can be beneficial so I started searching on here for some books to buy. There are so many out there and we ended up ordering several. I was interested in this one right away because the author also wrote all of the Biscuit books and my kids love those so we ordered this one for our son, along with Potty Book for Girls, The for our daughter. The Potty Book for Boys tells the story of a little boy named Henry who starts showing interest in using the potty. He tells us his daily routine, which includes getting his diaper changed, and he wonders if he should use the potty instead. The story continues on to show that he learns about going on the potty with some accidents along the way. The entire book is read in a sing-song rhyming manner. The book is 32 pages long, has colorful pictures and is printed on thick, glossy paper. It is a hardcover book and measures 6 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches. For the most part, my son liked this book and out of the five total we bought this one and the Potty Book for Girls were the two books my twins asked for the most. As a former English major, I had some issues with the grammar in a couple of spots, particularly towards the end when it says "like me and Teddy do." To me, that is like nails on a chalkboard even if it is phrased as such to keep it flowing smoothly. The other thing that perplexed me (and this could just be me) is after Henry learns to go on the potty, he says he can "run and jump and play." Maybe I'm being too picky but I know my kids did those things while wearing diapers. I'm just glad this book seemed to interest my son for the few months he wanted to look at it. Overall, both my son and I liked this book and it was the favorite out of the five we purchased. The illustrations are cute and the book gives the basics about potty training. My son looked at it for a few months and afterwards, he hadn't used the potty much at all so I don't feel this book helped too much. I'd say he hasn't even looked at this book in six months and he learned more from practicing and us helping him than reading a book. Still, if you are looking for a book for your little boy, it was the one my son liked the most and the price is just right. I haven't found any that we loved but this one is decent. Read more

My two year old loves this book. The illustrations are really cute. It also includes a lot of details you encounter when potty training like wetting the pants, wetting the floor, etc. My toddler loves the beginning too! It's about what the character likes and then there's the part where he guesses what's inside the box (a potty!). The book is the perfect size for a toddler to hold. It's small and sturdy.
