Replacing my Altras

edApril 19, 2024✓ Verified purchase

After 10+ years running in Altra's I have finally given up on them. I won't say that the Topo's are better that the Altra's of 5 years ago and before, but the road shoes from Topo are far better than the Altra's of the past few years for sure. I have had some [consistently] poor quality issues from the road shoes for a few years. Just to be clear, Altra made it right but when the soles are coming apart before I his 25 miles in a shoe that is a problem. I also still run in Altra trail shoes and have had no problems with that line. That being said, here is what I think of the Topo's: PROS: They have a good feel out of the box and not to "springy" but they also don't have a "dead" feel to them. At 25mm stack height they are about perfect for my daily runs, when I get back to going on long runs I'll have to see how they treat the feet. I like the multiple lacing options, since we have hills here, I up-sized and that helps but I also like being able to "lock down" my feet to keep my toes from getting hammered with my feet sliding forward. The toe box is roomy and allows my toes to "splay out" giving me just enough room but not enough to allow my feet to move around in them. I had a pair of Altra Escalante's that were made of a stretchy knit and had a really wide toe box and my feet just wandered all over in them (Most of the Escalante's I had were fantastic though). I really like the material, it is light and breathable )with some venting) and the right balance of support and comfort. Not too stiff and not too stretchy. CONS: I really wish there were more color options. I get it, Topo has not been around for a long time and they are having to make decisions based on their market share and investing in growth. That said, hey Topo.....add some colors to your line up (especially the 0 drop for me). As far as the shoes go, running in them and all, I don't have many miles on them so I cannot say how the Magnifly 5 will hold up but I had a pair of their Magnifly 4's and my only gripe with them was after several miles and about 9 months the footbed started to move around on me. Overall, I would recommend these to anyone. Great daily runners and seem to be a great option to anyone that wants a great alternative. Read more

Low drop, responsive, wide toe box - love 'em

David MobleyJanuary 12, 2026✓ Verified purchase

I really love these shoes; this is probably my third pair of Topo shoes (I logged quite a few miles in ST/ST2s) and I've liked all of them, but these are my favorite so far. I love the low drop, wide toebox profile. I also generally like a relatively firm and minimalist shoe, but I have a bit of arthritis in my feet and these hit that sweet spot for me of enough cushion without being too soft. They're also light enough for speed work, so I can use them for everything from distance training (up to 15-milers) to track work. The grip is also robust enough they work off-road in a pinch, though they are not super stable so I find that if I use them on trails I am slightly more likely to roll an ankle than I would be in a trail shoe. Still, a great all around shoe and one of my absolute favorites. Read more

ROMAN TOE SHAPE + HIGH ARCH + WIDE FOOT: PERFECTION!!

MarieOctober 7, 2025✓ Verified purchase

The media could not be loaded. Female, my foot measures by length as a size 7 men's / size 8.5 women's but typically I have to find the 0.1% of shoes that fit if I size up (sloppy and semi-loose but not falling off) -- sizing up a full whole size to women's 9.5 / men's 8. So I bought these in an 8 to see if they will work, and I hoped they would fit snug enough for workouts. THEY WORK!! I have an extremely wide foot combined with thick boned Roman shape toes and a high arch (but normal heel) so it is nearly impossible for me to find shoes. My third toe is always cut off, even if sizing up to where the fit is sloppy, and then they are almost always still too narrow. See pics, I am a 4 inch / 10 cm wide ball line foot, impossible. Even Keens do not usually fit. Men's sizes often have a tiny bit more width and arch-midfoot volume room so I ordered the men's model instead of women's. These fit like a dream! They are snug on my arch and great on my heel, and they're not sloppy loose even though I sized up a full size to fit my toes. I have tons of room for splay and yet they are snug enough for a run. I have a strong arch and do not need support (I generally have to live in barefoot sandals -- most barefoot closed shoes do not fit my foot shape; I also have a pair of twisted x hiking boots that fit my foot shape if sized up, for those looking) -- but these do have a lot of arch support. I am fine with that since my arches live without support most of the time and get their separate daily workout. The support feels good for a run, and the support will probably feel great for those days with miles of walking when feet start to ache. They are super comfortable. See pics if interested in comparing your foot shape. Hard to fit people dream come true. I will update if they break down too quickly, and whenever I reorder I will try to remember to update this review for life length report. Read more

Great running shoes that could have better build qaulity.

Chris AllenDecember 5, 2025✓ Verified purchase

These are very good running shoes if you need a 0 drop and wide toe box. I've yet to find anything that is quite comparable at this price bracket. They easily beat anything Nike makes and are on par with other running specific brands. My only complaint is they could have slightly better material quality as they only last 4-5 months with running. I've had other brands, asics, nike, hoka, altra, etc last longer with similar running/terrain that I use. Read more
