It’s seldom that I can put on any shoes and feel instar comfortable. These are lightweight and seem well made with just the right amount of Cush and arch support. I have a narrow heel so I tend to walk out of most wides as the heels are often low. These have a deeper heel and stay secure. I appreciate the tread as I have had no slipping issues on wet surfaces. I’ll be testing them in Patagonia in a few weeks. Read more
Love the fit and comfort of these shoes. Lots of room in the toe box but secure fit in the heel. Wore them all over hiking Scotland for several weeks, and they were great. Good grip, even hiking up and down to Old Man Stor. The cushion is really great. The tread is wearing down, but that's a fair trade-off. Would buy again, if they don't change them too much. Read more
I bought these for an upcoming trip for hiking the Cinque Terra Trail in Italy and it was definitely the right choice. Comfort plus good traction on the mostly slippery wet trailwe’re both a 10 out of 10. I now wear them for every day use and they’re holding up very well. I've worn them daily for 4 1/2 months so far and I also love the wide toe box. They’re my first Topo brand and I’m going to buy Topo again when the need arises. Read more
Important to know that I am not a runner, and use these and other similar shoes for walking, hiking and travelling. I have purchased several pairs of Topo Athletic shoes, as well as shoes from Altra and Xero. I am a big fan of Topo shoes because of their build quality, durability, comfort, anatomical fit and simple and elegant designs. I also like the way their shoes match my gait; I prefer them to Altras, for example. What I would like to share in this review is my experience with fit and sizing. Most of the time when I consider sizing and fit, I focus mainly on the length of the shoe and the shape and width of the toebox. However, with Topos, I would advise paying a lot of attention to the midfoot area. Topos fit snugly there. My first pair ran a bit long (US 10M) and therefore I tried my next pairs in US 9.5. Those fit fine, when laced up tightly, but when I want to wear them loose for a casual stroll, they don’t fit as well. The last of Topos is quite exacting. I find that when I wear size 10, I can both lace them up tightly and also wear them more loosely; they seem just a little long, though I’ve not found that to be a problem for walking. Note, the Ultraventures 3 & 4 are roomier than the Phantom 3s, so not all their shoes are exactly the same, which of course is true of many brands. Also, the UV4 midsole is noticeably more plush than the UV3’s, thus the UV4s are not as stable; for me, that’s not been an issue. I would also highly recommend buying Topo’s FKT insoles to replace the Ortholite insoles in your UVs. All in all, very happy with my Topo purchases. Read more
It's a very good quality shoe, is comfortable and good for long walks. Cons: grip isn't that good, feels like a running shoe not a trial running shoe, there is this weird thing about it where the sew that attaches the shoe tongue hurts from inside , I had to wear a very thick socks to get over that feeling. They fit like Altras. Wide toe box, great fit, comfortable, etc. What I didn't realize is that the sides are mesh, so the slightest amount of moisture will seep through. You can actually see light coming through on the sides. This will not only be a problem in wet conditions, it also makes them a lot less durable, and will let dust in. I was going to spray them with water repellent, but after seeing the mesh, what is the point? the material on the sides are porous. I'm also not a fan of the color. I don't like the big white soles. I decided to try them since Altra seems to be going downhill, but I doubt if I will buy them again, because of the mesh sides. They might be ideal for Summer, but for Fall and Winter I would look for something else. Year round, they seem more appropriate for the gym, not the trail. I'm debating rather to send them back or not. Read more
My first pair of TOPOs. As a tall woman with wide feet and bunions, I wear men’s hiking shoes. I was pleasantly surprised how well these shoes fit. Most comfortable pair of hiking shoes I’ve ever worn. I also appreciate the close fit on the heel and middle part of the shoe. Great traction on the trails. Planning to purchase other TOPOs for my everyday shoe. Read more
Very good choice indeed for those with wide feet and wide toe box. The shoes are wide enough for me in the middle and toes area. Minimal taper allows the toes of my feet to play and relax This model is all-rounder good for casual daily walks, good for standing and gym activities. Very comfortable., sturdy without the bulk. I highly recommend it. Read more
