This is a piece of junk. Against my better judgement, i already had a toshiba that had failed, I bought the sd-6100 on the advise of my father who said that Toshiba made one of the better DVD players. The first weekend I had it I watched 2 movies no problem. Since then I get an error message saying "bad disc" with every dvd. I finally called Toshiba, after being told to call 2 different numbers and being hung up on by a rep cause I wanted to talk to a supervisor, I was told they couldn't help me due to the fact that it was out of the 90 day warrenty by 7 days. Bought this DVD player as a temporary unit before diving it to get HDTV player, waiting for the design to mature before buying. Plus it was Regza compatible and I bought it with Toshiba 52" HDTV. Turns out this is a great DVD, upconverts standard DVDs, plays well, works with the TV's remote and even my audio systems Pioneer remote. For the price its unbelievable, very happy with it. Read more

This upconverting DVD player's picture is fantastic, but the options are limited. It's front display is sophomoric, and buttons are few. The REGZA connections however, make up for it's simple controls. When you insert a disk, the TV automatically changes to DVD intputs, nice. Picture is amazing, and clear. It is, however, a little louder in operation than I thought. I read the reviews about it making a little noise, but motors sound louder than my 10 year older player sitting next to it. This dvd player is a little annoying to setup but once you have it is very nice for the price. Pro cheap, many outputs cons annoying initial setup minor scaling issues. This dvd player is defaulted to HDMI so if you use s-video or RGB you have to start with composite and change default output in the settings. also if you have a widescreen you again have to change this in settings. Other than this I have so far enjoyed this versatile player and would even recommend given its cheap price and many features. jan 11 2010 This is an update to my review. after about 10 months the dvd player will not play dvds. The lcd readout says "bad disc" no matter what disc is inserted. WARRANTY is only 90 days for FREE replacement on day 91 to 365 they will trade a new or refurbished for a fee. how much is that fee? I have yet to find out. Given this new information I would not recommended this dvd player to anyone. If you can't even stand by your product for one year that makes a very telling statement. I bought this dvd player for my daughters room. It fully functions. The menu for divx movies is nice. The hdmi output was a nice feature on a dvd of this price. The only real complaint is the drive is a bit noisy when starting a disc or movie. Once the movie starts it quiets down. Read more

I got this player in August 2008 when I moved into my new apartment. In the second week of January 2009, having never been jarred in any way--I'd never moved it since connecting it to the TV--it stopped reading discs. After looking and searching for an Upconverting DVD player, I chose this one from Toshiba as it had a lot of features and despite some bad reviews from others, it still had more good than bad. Picture quality is wonderful. I bought a Belkin HDMI cable and the quality is fabulous. The player is neat and sleek.
