Best Rollaboard Suitcase Value on the Market - Excellent, very high-quality Suitcase

BPFebruary 27, 2025✓ Verified purchase

This purchase was to replace a Travelpro Crew 9 rollaboard that served me well for 10 years. I picked up this bag from Amazon Warehouse at a substantial discount even though it was new in the box. Have always been a fan of this style of rollaboard with 2 wheels as it does give just a little extra interior space over the spinners. When I first started traveling weekly for work, I looked at what pilots and flight attendants were using and most all have this style of bag with 2 wheels, and many are Travelpro. That said, if you prefer a spinner bag, this may not be the best choice. Quality - The quality of suitcases over the years has declined and most are essentially disposables once there is an issue with them. The quality of this bag is excellent and Travelpro stands behind it with a lifetime warranty. The wheels on this bag are very smooth, like rollerblade wheels, and makes it very easy to roll. The handle is made of high-quality materials and you can feel how well is slides up and down. The zippers and zipper pulls are all high-quality materials and construction. The zipper pulls on my last Travelpro failed and led to the demise of the bag. The pulls on this bag are of higher quality. Some reviewers have expressed concern with the metal zippers on the front pockets but they are also high-quality and are very easy to open and close. The handles on the bag are well reinforced and I expect will be very durable. The materials, leather and nylon, are also very high quality and noticeably different from most other suitcases of lower quality. Functionality - on my previous Travelpro rollaboard, I didn't use any of the external pockets because they were not very functional. On this bag, the external pockets are very functional and easy to access. The 2 pockets on the front of the bag are shallow and are great for storing smaller items. Behind these 2 pockets is a large one that is great for storing a laptop computer. The charging ports on the rear of the bag make plugging in any of your devices a snap with both a USB-A and a USB-C port with a sliding cover to protect these ports when not in use. Inside the bag you have the built-in, fold-out suiter. I haven't used this and is not something I have used on other bags so cannot comment on it. There is a removable quart-size wet pocket which I took out and do not use but can be a nice feature if you like to use a quart-size bag. I am not a fan of the "deluxe interior tie-down system" and wish the 2 flaps could be removed, but they cannot. I use compression bags and have no need for a tie-down system. It's easy enough to lay them flat on the bottom of the bag. I rarely use the expansion feature on rollaboard bags and have not tried the one on this bag. The size of this bag is perfect for all US airlines carry-on size requirements. Same size as my last Travelpro and never had an issue carrying it on. I weighed the bag without the suiter and the quart bag and it was 8.2lbs vs. the stated 7.7lbs. No issue, it's about the same as most other rollaboards except this bag uses much higher quality materials. Overall - I am very happy with this purchase and even more so that I was able to get this bag at a discount. I would recommend this bag to everyone but especially for those that are frequent travelers. It's well worth spending the extra money to have a high-quality bag. There are many reviews out there extolling the quality and value of this bag and I would agree. You can't go wrong with this bag. Read more

Quality bag

I’m very happy with the quality materials and ingenuity used in making this suitcase. I tried to order the Maxlight 5 but couldn’t get the color I wanted due to product availability. After 20 years of using a Costco special, it finally wore out, so I did a lot of research trying to find something equally as good. Costco didn’t have any roll aboard styles available l, and I didn’t want valuable pack space taken up by wheels with the spinner style. Travelpro met my needs overall and at a price point that was cheaper than others. Just used it on my first trip with several flights. It is east to maneuver in airport parking lots, airport escalators and in narrow isle ways in planes. Likewise, east to fit in the overhead bins on planes. On our return home, we had to check our bags, which involved the bags being handled by baggage people to move it on multiple flights. I was concerned with how it might fare upon pickup at baggage claim. Not a scratch or a mark from that process was present. The two zip pockets on the front are small and good for holding my belt or other small items I need east access to. The larger front pocket was a great place to stow my coat. The top opens up to easily access the inner compartment for maximum cargo room. The inner tie downs are an unexpected benefit. I also find the suit area on the inside of the top isn’t needed. The extra pad for this is easily removable though, which freed up the space for extras. All in all, design ingenuity and quality construction are the key attributes of this carry on bag. I love it. Great bag!

I did a lot of research before I landed on this one and I’m very pleased with my choice! I got the espresso color - even more beautiful in person. The bag is well made, spacious and glides very well… love the larger wheels for easier walking over carpet or textured floors. I packed it with 2 very stuffed packing cubes, 2 pairs of shoes, makeup bag, toiletries bag and still had some space to spare (without even having to expand!) My only critique is that the buckles on the inside to compress the interior catches… they’re plastic and seem like something that could break if moving too fast to release the buckle. Read more

Mostly amazing bag

Eli D DartSeptember 13, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I had a Platinum 3 for over 20 years - best bag ever. I was on my second handle (most amazing handle ever) and second set of inline skate wheels, and the bag was just starting to wear out after half a million miles of travel across three continents. So I picked up a nice new Travelpro. It’s great except for one thing. The issue is that the fold-up holder for dress shirts and suits opens out the wrong way. If I put the bag on a luggage stand in a hotel room, I have to open the suit holder up the wall instead of down over the bag - it’s ridiculous. The interior pocket organization isn’t great, but I can live with that. Other than the design fail of the suit holder, this is an excellent bag - it’s light, easy to deal with on a plane, the ergo of the handle and balance/maneuverability are excellent as I would expect from Travelpro. I like the external battery pocket, with the one caveat that the zipper often skips a tooth around the corner of the bag. So: mostly spectacular, with one design flaw that may or may not matter to you. Read more
