Tested this on a night drive, and I definitely want to say this has a IMX678 given the license plate quality. It's not as sharp as say, the Ombar T1 but it's definitely very good at picking out license plate against headlight glare, arguably better than the S1 Pro Max that I daily drive. Build quality is pretty good although the rear camera feels pretty plasticky. You do get a lot of accessories, including a 128GB SD card (which makes this a pretty good deal considering that not even microSD cards are spared from the memory shortage from AI slop) and an OBD2 hardwire kit. OSD controls are touch-operated rather than by buttons, which I'm not sure if it's better than if it just had buttons but it is pretty responsive. It's not a particularly compact dashcam unit, there are similar dashcams that have cabin cameras at this size, but it's also not offensively massive. The adhesive mount is just a plastic piece so you can remove the dashcam entirely off from it (this is definitely a plus from my S1 Pro Max which unfortunately embedded the power USB-C as part of the adhesive mount). The biggest downside to this dashcam is the rear camera cable. For some reason, Pelsee has decided to use a connector similar to what 70mai uses on the A810, instead of a traditional USB-C connector. This basically restricts you to a proprietary rear camera cable and it means you can't swap out to a different brand or even a different dashcam should Pelsee release a newer version in the future that uses USB-C on the dashcam-end. Initially this thing launched at a $350 MSRP (I think it was at $320), now the price has dropped to $220 (and there's an additional 10% discount coupon) at the time of this review. $220 ($200 after the coupon) is really good for the image quality and is very similar in terms of specs to the Vantrue S1 Pro Max w/ the 1440p rear camera but for a lot cheaper. However, as someone who used to daily-drive an Ombar T1, that dashcam also has a IMX678 (with a worse rear camera but includes a cabin camera) with comparable image quality, and at the time of this review it's $110 ($100 after a coupon) with a buy-1-get-a-hardwire-kit-free additional promotion; the T1's price can vary a lot (anywhere between $100 and $200) but it's honestly a better deal compared to this Pelsee S3 Ultra. If the form factor works for you, this is a pretty solid high-end dashcam, however the biggest restriction is say in the future you want to upgrade to a different dashcam unit, you'll be stuck with that "weird connector" on the dashcam's end (even if the rear camera uses USB-C) Read more
