One quick beginners note, as with any refrigerant devices, be sure to set it on the countertop and let it sit unplugged for 24 hours before using. The Freon and oil in the compressor need to settle and separate after being in transit. I'd first like to take a moment to talk about the look of this machine. This is one of the better looking ice makers I have owned before. It has a stainless steel outer casing with a black top and digital touch screen controls. It looks really modern on our kitchen countertop. Second initial reaction was how amazingly quiet this ice maker is. You won't even know that this is continually running in the background. You might hear some ice sliding down the ramp every so often, but the main unit and compressor are pretty much silent. Compared to my older cubed ice make where I could see the ice creation process, you really can't see how this ice is being produced. If you look way in the back with a flash light, you can see something continually turning and little ice nuggets just keep popping out. It's pretty cool to watch. It took a little while for the ice to start dropping probably just due to the compressor needing to cool everything down from room temperature. Once the ice started dropping, it really started to pick up the pace. The nuggets just continue to randomly drop as they are made and after about an hour, the ice bucket was starting to fill up. I love that as the ice melts in the basket, the water drops back into the reservoir and is reused to make more ice. When you're low on water, just pull out the ice bucket and add more to the bottom of the tank. Be sure to use filtered water for the cleanest ice and to also help keep the machine clean of hard water. When you are ready to clean, there is a drain plug on the bottom to pull while holding the ice maker edge over the sink. They also include packets of citric acid descaler to help remove any hard water from the system during the cleaning process option. Our old ice maker would get a weekly rinse and interior cleaning and that seemed to be working for us. The ice maker also comes with two scoops. They included a green plastic scoop probably for everyday use and a shiny metal one, probably for use during dinner parties. Based on everything I see with this ice maker from the look of the machine itself, to how quiet it is, and with the amount of ice it can produce, this is a really good deal and I'm extremely happy. This nugget ice maker is really satisfying to use. The ice comes out soft and chewable, and it starts producing surprisingly quickly. Operation is simple with just one button, and the stainless steel design looks clean on the counter without feeling bulky. The ice production rate is strong enough to keep up with daily use, and the self-cleaning feature is a nice convenience that makes upkeep a little easier. It is not completely silent, though. It runs quieter than some machines, but you will still hear it working, especially when it is making a fresh batch. The ice also melts fairly fast if it sits too long, and it can clump together in the basket if you do not transfer it to the freezer. Regular cleaning is definitely part of owning it, and I did run into a couple minor quirks with maintenance reminders. This item is not the first countertop ice maker I’ve owned, but is an obvious improvement in my experience. It has a stainless steel exterior, allowing it to blend in with most kitchen appliances. I find it easier to clean than plastic exteriors which is a plus. The ice that it produces is a great middle ground between crushed and cubed ice. I find that the smaller, pebble style ice cools your drink quicker as well. A full bin of ice takes an average amount of time. Two scoops, one plastic and one metal, are included but I found the large quantity of cleaning packets an ever better addition. Although every countertop ice maker will tell you to clean it within the manual, including a relatively large quantity of cleaner never does. An enclosed, damp container obviously needs to be cleaned and this ice maker has a cleaning cycle button and a bottom drain plug making it easy now that you have plenty of cleaner. There are only two buttons and two warning indications. You can press Clean or Make Ice and it will warn you if you need to add water or if the bin is full. If you fill the unit with water, it will create more than one bin full of ice which is nice. The unit is slightly heavier than others I’ve used, which could be seen as a positive or negative feature depending on how you plan to use the machine. If you don’t want it to move around the countertop, it’s great. If you plan to store it and pull it out as needed, it is something to consider.
