I bought this as a cheaper replacement for a KVM switch. I have a monitor that I am sharing between a ThinkPad laptop and an HP desktop. My monitor auto-switches between both devices based on sync detection, so I only needed a hub to switch my USB peripherals. It works well for mice, keyboards, and storage drives, both USB sticks and external hard drives. Just be careful when switching drives so you don't corrupt one in the middle of a write function. Shouldn't be a problem under most circumstances, and it hasn't happened to me, but it could be an issue if your drive is encrypted with something like BitLocker and you try to swap in the middle of a read/write operation. The USB switch is capable of charging devices as well, albeit slowly. IMPORTANT NOTE - If you are trying to also use USB audio switching, your mileage may vary. The USB controller chipset on HP computers has a hard time handling the audio coming from this USB switch. At best, you'll get random crackles in your audio, and at worst, it will crash your computer's USB controller and require you to restart your computer. If you have an HP desktop, you can fix this by getting a PCI USB expansion card with a different and/or better chipset, and you'll be able to use USB audio switching with no problems. Another solution I haven't tried, but might work for Bluetooth speakers/headphones, would be to: 1. Connect a Bluetooth USB adapter to the hub. 2. Disable both computers' internal Bluetooth in Device Manager if they have one. 3. Have the Bluetooth audio device connect to that adapter on each computer. 4. You should, in theory, now be able to switch your audio like you do your mouse/keyboard. All in all, the hub is easy to use out of the box, minus the audio switching issues, and it's cheaper than a KVM switch. If you don't need video switching and aren't switching between HP computer(s), I would recommend giving this USB switcher a try. Read more

BLUF: This feels a bit light and cheap for the price, but it works reliably and does exactly what I bought it for. I purchased this to share a gaming keyboard and mouse between a Mac mini and a gaming PC, and it has been working great so far. Setup was simple and switching between systems is quick and consistent. I have not experienced any disconnects or lag, and both machines recognize the peripherals instantly when switching. The main downside is the build quality. The unit feels lighter and cheaper than I expected, which was a little disappointing at this price point. It does not feel fragile, but it definitely does not feel premium either. My only real complaint is the included USB cables. They are fairly short, and for what this costs I would have liked to see longer cables included. Depending on your desk setup, you may need to buy longer ones separately, which is kind of annoying. Overall, it does the job well and solves a very specific problem cleanly. For about two years I was using the super-basic version of Ugreen's USB switch — a thin plastic box with a couple of 3.0 A-type ports and a toggle button on top. It worked perfectly fine, but at a certain point I started to get the upgrade itch. I wanted something with a few more ports, including USB-C, and one that could also support the 3.2 10Gbps standard. This fit the bill, and it's been working very well as the go-between for a AM5-based PC and a Mac Studio. I've actually been using it in combination with a Gitfos USB hub for more convenient device plugging and unplugging, and with external NVME drives I'm seeing close to the maximum 10Gbps transfer speeds (960 MB/s in my real-world testing compared to a 1,250 MB/s theoretical). In addition to the physical toggle button on top, this model also has a very handy cabled switch that I can feed close to my keyboard for easier accessibility. The previous switch had only a physical top button, which could be a pain to access and prevented me from hiding it away. So, no complaints from me. It's compact, discreet and performs well.
